    Project Type

    The project consists of the rehabilitation of approximately 10.3 miles of the Colonial Parkway (Parkway) from Milepost (MP) 0.17 to MP 1.61 and MP 6.02 to MP 14.88 within Colonial National Historical Park in southern Virginia. The work includes exposed aggregate concrete pavement slab replacement to match existing, asphalt pavement rehabilitation, concrete curb replacement, bridge and tunnel rehabilitation, new tunnel lighting system installation, culvert rehabilitation or replacement, storm drain system rehabilitation or replacement, historic brick headwall rehabilitation, ditch grading and shoulder stabilization, stormwater management, steel‐backed timber guardrail replacement, installation of additional steel‐backed timber guardrail, traffic counter installation, traffic control, sign replacement, pavement marking replacement, and other miscellaneous work.

     

    Period of Performance: The expected starting date is August 1, 2023 with an expected completion date of October 30, 2026.

     

    Job Description: M&J is currently seeking three (3) Construction Inspector Level II assigned to our VA office, who will be working onsite at the project in York County, the City of Williamsburg, and James City County, VA.

     

    Number of Positions: Three (3)

    Responsibilities

    • Performs inspections of traffic control, environmental controls, layout, construction methods and materials, and all issues concerning the construction of the project.
    • Determines the acceptability of the day‐to‐day work performed by the contractor.
    • The CI‐II will review and recommend accepting or rejecting daily reports submitted by the contractor, performs inspection of the contractor’s quality control procedures and material testing, and verify that procedures are in conformance with the approved Quality Control Plan and other established procedures.
    • The CI‐II must be able to review material testing procedures and results for conformance to the contract and measure quantities of materials placed.
    • CI‐II may be required to perform sampling and/or in‐place testing of soil, aggregate base, concrete, and asphalt concrete pavement.

    Qualifications

    Required Skills & Experience

    Must be certified as a Highway Construction Inspection National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) LV-II Inspector or equivalency. Desired Construction Inspectors LV‐II should possess substantial experience in overseeing heavy highway construction projects. It is essential for candidates to have hands‐on involvement in diverse tasks, including but not limited to exposed aggregate concrete pavement slab replacement to match existing structures, asphalt pavement rehabilitation, concrete curb replacement, bridge and tunnel rehabilitation, installation of new tunnel lighting systems, culvert rehabilitation or replacement, storm drain system rehabilitation or replacement, historic brick headwall rehabilitation, ditch grading and shoulder stabilization, stormwater management, steel backed timber guardrail replacement, additional steel‐backed timber guardrail installation, traffic counter installation, traffic control, sign replacement, pavement marking replacement, and other miscellaneous tasks. Inspectors should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, word, etc.) and Adobe Acrobat (pdf).
