Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Economics typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. Full-Time Lecturer of Economics

  • The Economics Area of the Orfalea College of Business at Cal Poly seeks applicants for a full-time academic-year lecturer position to teach Economics courses to meet the needs of the Economics Area.  Expected teaching assignments may include Principles of Economics, Intermediate Microeconomics or Macroeconomics, and/or Introductory Econometrics as well as other electives to be determined based on the interests and qualifications of the applicant. Other responsibilities include advising and service to the area, college, and university. Applicants should be committed to excellence in teaching.  Applicants must be academically qualified under AACSB standards.     Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2023, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are: 

    Lecturer A: $5,007-$6,359
    Lecturer B: $5,925-$12,594
    Lecturer C: $6,500-$13,831
    Lecturer D: $8,184-$14,487

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    A Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Economics or related discipline from an accredited institution. Must provide evidence of exceptional teaching. Applicants are expected to demonstrate and maintain currency in their field.  Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching, as well as the ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings is required. Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language is required.

    The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
