    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    Full-time non-tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level (depending on credentials and experience), with the opportunity to move into a tenure-track position. The successful candidate will teach courses for English minors, as well as general education writing courses and courses in literature, writing, grammar, and composition suitable for students from all majors. Candidates should have established teaching and mentoring experience at the post-secondary level. Ideal candidates will also have contributed scholarly work through peer-reviewed publications and be prepared to deliver courses that center the works and voices of women and of African and African diaspora communities. The successful candidate will re-imagine and reinvent the Writing Center as a nexus for empowering and developing student writers and promoting appreciation for the written and spoken word campus-wide. As head of the Writing Center, they will also direct and coordinate collaboration between general education writing instructors and Writing Center tutors. 

    Candidates should have a record of success in securing outside funding or be able to demonstrate the potential to do so. M.A, M.S. or Ph.D. in English or a closely related field is required, Ph.D. is preferred. 

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
    • Teach courses for English minors, general education courses, and literature or writing courses suitable for students of all majors
    • Reimagine and lead the Writing Center
    • Advise English minors with a focus on gaining communication skills and experiences relevant to their academic, professional, and personal goals
    • Advise students who are developing original scholarly or artistic writings and help them to identify and pursue opportunities to publish or present their work at conferences
    • Collaborate with faculty, students, and community members in developing campus programming to promote and celebrate written and spoken work and to foster the creation of original work by students and members of the broader Bennett community
    • Contribute to innovative and scholarly literature in the field
    • Perform administrative duties and record-keeping for the English minor and the Writing Center
    • Use cutting-edge teaching methods and technologies to engage students and ensure their success
    • Use Canvas to enhance course delivery and record grades and attendance
    • Submit grades and attendance reports promptly
    • Actively pursue outside funding
    • Serve on College committees and participate in the general administrative work of the College
    • Attend faculty meetings and College events (such as Baccalaureate, Commencement, and convocations); participate in Faculty-Staff Institutes at the beginning of each semester; participate in recruiting events, professional development workshops, and other programming as assigned by the Dean of Faculty or VP of Academic Affairs  

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
    • Knowledge of pedagogical techniques in English 
    • Knowledge of current English methods and protocols 
    • Skills in multiple digital frameworks 
    • Ability to keep accurate records 
    • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing 
    • Ability to work cooperatively with all College constituencies 
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work within a diverse community 
    • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively 
    • Demonstrated understanding and a strong commitment to cultural diversity. 

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    • M.A., M.S. or Ph.D., or other related degree in the field is required, a Ph.D. in the field is preferred
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching at an institution of higher learning
