Professor - History teaches courses in the discipline area of history. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - History provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - History typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     REPORTS TO:  Building Principal

     

    JOB GOAL:  To provide a quality instructional program for students and to complete teaching duties necessary to the district’s educational program..

     

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

     

    Specific Duties: (Coaching responsibilities will also be included)

     

    1. Conduct classroom activities in conformity with established policies and under the        supervision of the principal.
    2. Assume extra duties as assigned by the principal.
    3. Attend all meetings and conferences of teachers called by the superintendent, principal, or director of instruction and perform such duties in connection with these meetings as may be requested.
    4. Give careful attention to the temperature, ventilation, and lighting of their room.
    5. Keep window shades in their room adjusted uniformly and windows free of litter.
    6. Give due attention to the health of the children and cooperate with the school nurse for the promotion of health work in schools.  Exercise due vigilance in preventing the spread of contagious diseases and in detecting physical defects among pupils.
    7. Keep all records required by the principal, director, and superintendent neatly and        accurately and make such monthly and special reports as may be required.
    8. In case of absence, notify the principal.
    9. Participate in professional growth activities.
    10. Volunteer for building and district committees.
    11. Use planning time to develop curricular and instructional practice.
    12. Schedule conferences to meet with parents of students who are struggling academically.
    13. Report student progress to parents and administrators in a timely fashion.
    14. Supervise appropriate areas between classes.
    15. Confer with colleagues on student progress.
    16. Remain abreast of all safety evacuation procedures.
    17. Report to duty by 7:30 a.m. and are to remain until 3:15 p.m., unless otherwise required by the teacher’s assignment for faculty meetings.
    18. Be at their designated place of duty at the proper time and shall supervise the students under their care except in cases of emergency or by prior arrangement with their          supervisors.
    19. Be neat, clean, and dress in such a manner as to be in an acceptable, professional manner.
    20. Prepare all records and reports as required.  These reports should be neat, accurate, and on time.
    21. The techniques and procedures of educational practice are derived from teacher and curricular requirements.  These should be based on an agreement between the            teacher and administration through curriculum development.
    22. Keep sufficient records and frequent summative evaluations to justify marks given to students.

     

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Nine months/165 days per year.  Salary and Fringe Benefits to be arranged by the Superintendent and the Board of Education.  Daily hours 7:30 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.

     

    EVALUATION:  Performance evaluated annually by the Building Principal in accordance with Board of Education regulations.
