    Position Summary
    The Department of Central Eurasian Studies in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University Bloomington seeks a tenure track hire (open rank) to fill the Roger E. Covey Professorship in Silk Road Studies. The appointment begins August 1, 2025.
    Applicants should have a proven track record of scholarship related to the overland and/or maritime Silk Roads and their relevance in the contemporary world. Areas of scholarship could include interactions of societies, histories, religions, institutions, trade and economic developments, natural resources, great-power competitions, diplomacy, and security. Teaching will be conducted in English.
    Candidates should demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, public engagement, and program development of Silk Road and Central Eurasian Studies within Indiana University’s world-class Central Eurasian Studies department as well as within the Hamilton Lugar School. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a capacity to design and teach classes appealing to a range of students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

    Applicants at the assistant professor level must provide contact information for three (3) references, whereas applicants at the associate or full professor levels must provide contact information for six (6) references.

    Basic Qualifications
    Candidates must have a PhD degree or be ABD by the starting date of the appointment. Proficiency in at least one of the languages of the region (e.g., Turkic, Iranian, Central Asian, Sino-Tibetan languages) is required.

    Additional Qualifications
    Scholars who can engage on cross-regional and cross-period themes and issues are preferred. Proficiency in Chinese, Arabic, and/or another regional language is desirable, but not required.
