Primary Purpose of Position | The Center for Energy Research and Technology (CERT) Director's primary responsibilities include developing the Center's overall research agenda; identifying potential new research topics and building teams to pursue research opportunities and prepare analytic papers and policy briefs; conducting original research; organizing issue-focused meetings, conferences, and other events to inform the academic and public community about the Center's research agenda and accomplishments; and, communicating research findings to a range of audiences toward shaping public policy. The Director shall be motivated yet flexible, diplomatic, creative, trustworthy, a good team player, and must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. The Director shall establish and sustain a strong externally funded research program in Architectural Engineering and produce an excellent record of scholarly publication; bring pedagogical skills to teach undergraduate and graduate courses; supervise MS and Ph.D. theses; and provide service to the university and its units, to the state and regional community, as well as to the appropriate professional organizations. The CERT Director shall provide strategic and executive leadership of the Center and will report to the Chair of the Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering (CAEE) Department. The Director is responsible for the administration and management of ongoing operations of CERT and its programs and resources; development and coordination of independent, interdisciplinary, and cooperative research programs; forecasting and identification of new potential lines of research in cooperation with industry and other research stakeholders; establishment of research priorities; oversight and management of the budget; formulation of long and short range plans for use of human and financial resources; development, maintenance, and improvement of critical laboratory facilities; generation of external grant and contract support to supplement the base budget of CERT; reporting of activities of CERT and the results of its research; promotion and maintenance of effective relations with the community and government; and maintenance of productive administrative relations at North Carolina A&T State University (NCA&TSU) and with other units of the University of North Carolina system. The CERT Director will teach undergraduate and graduate level courses; conduct research; advise, mentor, and recruit students; develop curriculum, conducting scholarly activities, and perform other activities as expected. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment, and service to the department, College, and University as needed. Based on the qualifications and experience of the individual selected for this position, the position will be either a 9-month tenure track faculty position with a stipend or a 12-month administrative staff position. |
