Professor - Music teaches courses in the discipline area of music. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Music provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Music typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students. Assistant Professor, Director of UNM Music Prep

  • The University of New Mexico is seeking a tenure-track music faculty member to serve as the Director of the UNM Music Prep School (MPS) and String Lab School (SLS) community music programs. This Assistant Professor will provide vision for, and administration of, these community music programs. 
    Duties will include overseeing daily operations, supervision of staff, budget management and scheduling. This will also include working in coordination with the UNM Foundation to maintain donor relationships, developing and maintaining marketing materials, and pursuing grant opportunities. The successful candidate will design and develop curricula in the MPS and SLS to enhance the
    educational offerings in these community music programs. This faculty member will also teach courses in music based on the expertise of the candidate and as appropriate to the needs of the department. It is expected that this faculty member will engage in active recruiting efforts on behalf of the department, and will collaborate with existing faculty in an effort to integrate the
    MPS and SLS more fully into the activities of the Department of Music. This faculty member will also engage actively with the larger arts and music education community in New Mexico and will develop and maintain a strong research/creative activity profile.
