    This 9-month position is a one-year appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, is non-tenure eligible, and is only for the period beginning  August 16, 2022 through May 15, 2023. 

    The Opportunity:

    The mission of the Center for the Creative Economy (CCE) is to promote the creative economy as a post-disciplinary, collaborative force that disrupts status quo in order to drive innovation and new business models around the world. The CCE provides research and education for developing career pathways, and translating ideas into new products and services in the creative economy, through 6 interconnected programs: Artist Colony Living-Learning Program; Creative Entrepreneurship; Design Ops Internship Program; UX/UI; Advanced Media Production Technology; and the Creative Media Production Technology in partnership with the VA Department of Juvenile Justice.

    This is a 9-month non-tenure eligible term faculty position based in the Center for the Creative Economy (CCE). The faculty member will have a key leadership role in overseeing the Creative Entrepreneurship Program in the CCE in support of the vision outlined by the Associate Dean for Research, Innovation, and Graduate Studies. Duties fall into three broad categories: 1) managing the daily operation of the Creative Entrepreneurship program 2) student teaching/mentoring/advising an equivalent of 6–9 credits/semester; and 3) community and university outreach. This position reports directly to the Executive Director, Center for the Creative Economy.

    Major Responsibilities:

    Teaching:
    Teaching responsibilities include 6–9 credits of instruction each semester, at the undergraduate level in the faculty member’s area of expertise at the discretion of the Executive Director of the Center for the Creative Economy. Additional teaching responsibilities may include designing and leading professional development workshops on innovation and entrepreneurship.

    Research:
    The faculty member’s professional and/or creative activity should make a contribution to a body of knowledge within the disciplines of innovation, entrepreneurship, and the creative economy. The faculty member’s professional activity should relate to and/or support the School’s curricula, reflect a high standard of quality of competence and be consistent with and support the mission and initiatives of the department, School, and University.

    Service:
    The faculty member will serve on departmental, and/or University committees as designated by the supervisor, as well as serve in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, professional conferences etc. when appropriate.

    Qualifications:

    • Terminal degree (MFA) in a related field, and at least 5 years of experience teaching in university academic instruction beyond the TA level.
    • Experience in business creation, ownership and operation, specifically in areas related to the creative disciplines.
    • Ability to teach at the undergraduate level in areas of expertise such as ideation, innovation, entrepreneurship, business modeling and planning, specifically as applied to the creative disciplines of fine and performing arts, and design.
    • Demonstrated commitment to professional involvement and collaboration across a range of disciplines internal and external to VCUarts.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective communication and working relationships with University and School of Arts administrators, faculty members, and students, as well as vendors, service providers, and members of the professional creative community.
    • Independent, self-motivated collaborator, with excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills (both orally and written).
    • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
