Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Program Director (Non-Profit) typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     The Arc of Essex County is a non-profit organization that provides services and programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Our corporate office is located in Livingston, NJ and we have programs throughout Essex County.

    This position is in person at our corporate office in Livingston, NJ.

    Job Summary:

    The Assistant Director of Adult Residential Services will provide oversight to the management team ensuring the implementation of Residential Services operations and activities meet all regulatory and participant ISP requirements and are delivered as per agency standards and quality.

    This position reports to the Director of Residential Services.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Train, supervise & support Program Managers for all assigned Residential Programs
    • Supervise assigned residential programs, and conduct regular visits, both announced and unannounced, to the program sites to ensure that DDD and The Arc of Essex County's program standards are being met and all deficiencies are being addressed
    • Provide consistent and accurate information to Director of Residential Services regarding all program issues
    • Be available for On-Call coverage and participate in the On-Call support system
    • Manage all emergencies for the assigned residential programs
    • Oversee screening, evaluation and transition of residential clients
    • Conduct regular on-site meetings with the Program Managers concerning the status and goals of the program, the consumers, and the staff
    • Maintain regular contact with agency clinical team to ensure the medical health and behavioral health concerns of all service recipients are being met
    • Interview applicants for Program Manager and other key staff and provide written recommendation(s) to the Director
    • Conduct annual performance review for the Program Managers and participate in all issues pertaining to staff performance
    • Perform administrative tasks related to program functioning
    • Conduct regular reviews of current budget status for programs
    • Cooperate with DDD, SRU, Licensing, police, other state and federal agencies, and The Arc of Essex County during all audits, inspections, or investigations
    • Perform any other responsibilities that are directly related to the well-being of the individuals or the needs of the program as directed by the Director of Residential Services

    Education / Work Experience / Skills:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, or related field and at least three (3) years of administrative experience in department specific services to adults with developmental disabilities required. Or, in lieu of Bachelor’s degree, seven (7) years’ experience providing supports/administrative experience to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
    • Valid Driver’s License with a clean record required
    • EHR experience and basic computer skills required
    • Knowledge of NJ state regulations required
