  • POSITION SUMMARY: The Social Director plans, supervises and implements social events, outings, programs, and activities that are designed to meet the interests and needs of the independent component of the campus. The Social Program will be multi-faceted and reflect groups’ and individuals’ interests and needs and provide programming that focuses on the six dimensions of wellness: emotional, intellectual, physical, social, spiritual, and vocational. Through resident feedback and involvement, interest questionnaires, and staff input the Social Director will develop a well tailored program that includes, but is not limited to, themed events, educational opportunities, social functions, spiritual opportunities, day trips, cultural outings, lectures, informational meetings, and volunteer opportunities. The Social Director will develop and continually update a file of resources available in the surrounding community to utilize and enhance the programming options available to residents. The Social Director will facilitate communication and teamwork with fellow staff and focus on excellent customer service for the residents. This position also coordinates the joining of marketing events and social events under the supervision of the Executive Director.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Represents the campus in a positive manner while creating an environment that fosters respect and courtesy for residents and employees alike. Works within the campus programs to promote safety and the well-being of all residents and employees.
    • Upholds the campus’s Mission Statement.
    • Maintains HIPAA standards and regards all medical or healthcare information pertaining to residents and employees as confidential.
    • Establishes a yearly calendar of social events for the marketing department and publishes yearly calendar for distribution.
    • An ongoing program of activities will be designed and provided to meet the resident’s interests and needs. Programs will be scheduled and offered seven days a week, including evenings and weekends.
    • Uses an inventory of resident interests to plan in advance a three month schedule of social and recreational activities and publishes a monthly calendar that is distributed to residents and posted in appropriate areas throughout the clubhouse.
    • Leads and participates in all scheduled activities, encourages resident participation, tracks and maintains attendance and resident satisfaction, and provides alternate activities or confirms substitutes due to absence.
    • Prepares and publishes a monthly newsletter that will include, but is not limited to, a biographical profile of new residents, an introduction of new staff, promotion of planned special activities, and other matters of interest to the residents.
    • Posts and updates the schedule for van trips, the operation hours for the dining room and hair care salon, other regularly scheduled spaces or functions, the current monthly social calendar, and any other information helpful to residents.
    • Develops a transportation schedule for the bus that assures resident access to the grocery, pharmacy, bank and church on a weekly basis, and to medical and dental appointments.
    • Plans outings for residents to cultural, educational, and religious events on a periodic basis. Plans overnight events at least twice per year and day trips on a monthly basis.
    • Communicates with the concierge to assist residents with sign-ups for transportation, activities, outings, and distribution of games, puzzles, etc.
    • Develops a plan to individually recognize residents’ birthdays-cards, balloons, flowers, special dessert in the dining room, etc. Also plans a birthday celebration for each month in which one or more residents have a birthday. This event may be planned jointly with other events if necessary.
    • Coordinates the services provided by the Hair Care Salon (if applicable), including scheduling times for the shop to be open and arranging for a substitute hair dresser if necessary.
    • Coordinates invitation information with the management company’s marketing department for each social and/or marketing event and submits requests in a timely manner per the policy.
    • Participates in weekly Executive staff meeting to communicate about campus projects, concerns, and ideas. Also leads a monthly meeting with the Activity Coordinator and Wellness Coordinator to communicate and collaborate on campus wide events and initiatives.
    • Maintains cleanliness of all areas designated as activities/social spaces as well as any common areas where activities, programs, or events will take or have taken place.
    • Adheres to the budgetary guidelines assigned to the Social department.
    • Keeps an updated inventory of all equipment, supplies, and tools utilized within the department.

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Occasional travel may be required for training sessions, continuing education opportunities, emergency situations, and other company functions.
    • Responsible for knowledge of fire and safety procedures including those involving blood-borne pathogens.
    • Remains in proper attire at all times and maintains a high standard of appearance.
    • Participates in professional improvement workshops, seminars and meetings which allow continued education on current affairs in geriatric activity management.
    • Interacts well with marketing tours and prospective residents.
    • Maintains excellent resident and employee relations. Handles complaints and recommendations constructively.
    • Completes company assigned monthly training sessions via the Silverchair website.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and/or SLC Wellness Director.
