    Summary/Objective 

     

    The Financial Analyst will be responsible for preparing and analyzing financial reports, conducting forecasting in coordination with the Senior Director of Budgeting, and developing financial models that support informed decision-making.  The incumbent will prepare analyses of these statements using various financial indicators including, liquidity, leverage, and activity ratios, and present conclusions to senior management and executive staff.   

    Essential Functions

    • Prepare and analyze standard monthly financial reports such as income statements, balance sheets, and statements of cash flows
    • Conduct horizontal and vertical financial statement analyses and benchmark said analyses with industry standards
    • Work in partnership with the Senior Director of Budgeting as well as various program directors to conduct financial forecasting and budgeting activities 
    • Perform variance analysis to compare actual results with budgeted figures and previous forecasts
    • Work with the senior financial leadership to develop projections of monthly and year-to-date financials within 10 business days after the end of each month
    • Provide the VP of Finance with cash management ratio analysis and forecast changes in cash position and requirements
    • Develop productivity measures and reporting tools for various contracts and grants
    • Perform essential duties associated with payroll function, processing, reconciliation, and reporting. 
    • Ensure staff allocation percentages align with grant specifications
    • Manage paid time off (PTO) accruals quarterly to predict organizational exposure
    • Analyze business trends and broader environmental indicators to identify potential risks and opportunities
    • Provide liquidity and solvency analysis for internal decision-making
    • Assist in preparing financial presentations for senior management, executive staff, and VOANR’s board of directors
    • Evaluate and report on departmental financial performance
    • Collaborate with members of the finance department and others to gather financial data
    • Identify and implement necessary process improvements within the finance department
    • Support month-end and fiscal year-end closing processes. 
    • Assist the financial leadership team with audit preparation and coordination with external auditors
    • Conduct risk assessments and suggest mitigation strategies
    • Prepare financial models for potential future merger activities
    • Analyze federal, state, and local contracts for financial implications
    • Provide training and guidance to finance team members where necessary and appropriate

    Competencies

    • Maintenance of confidentiality and use of proper discretion
    • Skills in data interpretation and statistical analysis
    • Solid knowledge of accounting principles and financial statements
    • Thorough understanding of spreadsheet software, preferably Excel, and financial analysis tools (such as IBISWorld).
    • Strong ability to communicate complex financial information in an easily understandable manner
    • Detail-oriented mindset

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position may have direct supervisory responsibilities and may serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization.

    Work Environment

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers, and smartphones.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.     Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

    Travel

    Limited travel may be expected for this position.

    Required Education, Experience or Eligibility Qualifications

    • A bachelor's degree and two to three years of accounting experience, or eight to ten years of experience in the accounting field, or any similar combination of education and experience.

    Preferred Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
    • Five to eight years of grant, compliance, and accounting experience.
