Project Engineering Manager plans and directs all design engineers, drafters, and technical engineers working on specific projects. Manages the development, implementation, and evaluation of complex designs. Being a Project Engineering Manager oversees product construction and testing in order to ensure completion of projects as efficiently and effectively as possible. Evaluates and approves changes that substantially impact the scope, budget, or schedule of a project. Additionally, Project Engineering Manager monitors progress and performance against the project plan. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Project Engineering Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. What’s the Job?
- Manage capital facilities projects by drafting Scope of Work (SOW) or User Requirements, leading design reviews, and overseeing execution.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure quality and cost goals are met.
- Implement, administer, and control project documentation in narrative and drawing formats.
- Collaborate with suppliers, challenging them on timelines and technical aspects.
- Develop and maintain project schedules to ensure timely completion using tools like MS Project, Smartsheet, or Excel.
What’s Needed?
- Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline and 5 years of capital project engineering experience.
- Proficiency in project management, contractor coordination, and task execution.
- Demonstrated success in managing diverse activities and strong leadership skills.
- Ability to organize and present technical and project management overviews independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, capable of working effectively in a matrixed, team environment.
