Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice.     The salary ranges from $285,000 annually - $323,190 annually, based on qualifications and experience.

    As a Staff Psychiatrist, you will provide 24-hour routine, professional, psychiatric services for the treatment of mentally ill patients.
     
    The Alaska Psychiatric Institute is a 24-hour facility that requires its staff psychiatrists to participate in on call duties and to be available for crisis management.

    This position is located at 3700 Piper Street in the U-MED district of east Anchorage which offers several maintained walking trails, parks and nearby lakes.  This area is filled with several restaurants, shopping stores, and has easy access to public transportation.

    BACKGROUND CHECK

    The successful candidate must pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a state and FBI fingerprint-based background check. 

     If selected for the position and prior to hire, applicant will be asked to:
     1. Submit to fingerprinting and background check screening.
     2. Provide proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella Immunizations;
     3. Provide proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or declination statement);
     4. Provide annual Influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement;  
     5. Proof of Tuberculosis screening within past 12 months;
     6. Proof of COVID Vaccination or exemption.
