Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice.     Overview:

    Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization and/or medication.

    Responsibilities

    Summary:

    • Responsible for providing clinical services to patients at the facility.
    • Practice within medical protocols defined by federal and state regulations, as well as by corporate, facility policy or procedures.
    • Review medical information on patients to ensure medical stability and to offer medical recommendations.
    • Evaluate patients for mental, emotional or behavioral disorders.
    • Treat or direct treatment of patients, utilizing a variety of psychotherapeutic methods and medications.
    • Review and complete medical information for individual care plans, documents services and information in a timely manner.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Doctoral degree in Medicine (MD or DO) required.
    • One or more years’ post graduate degree practice preferred.
    • Licensed in the the state in which the facility(s) operate.

    Licenses/Certifications:

    • Board certification in psychiatry
    • Current DEA credentials to prescribe controlled substances without restrictions and per regulation within the state in which the practitioner will be working.
