Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice.     We are seeking a full-time Psychiatrist to join our team at Wakulla Continuum of Care Unit located in Crawfordville, Florida, just 15 miles Southeast of Tallahassee. As Florida's capital city and home to Florida State University, Tallahassee boasts an abundance of dining, shopping, cultural and sporting opportunities as well as ample opportunities for outdoor recreation and easy access to Florida's famous beaches and state parks.

    This is one of the most diverse and innovative male institutions in the US.  Provide inpatient or outpatient services within this state-of-the-art male correctional institution.  Utilize some of the most innovative programing and use of specialized Residential Mental Health Units to assist those with serious mental illness.

    The Psychiatrist provides psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for patients, works under the supervision of the Psychiatric Medical Director, and provides clinical leadership for a multi-disciplinary team in providing behavioral health services to patients with psychiatric disorders or other mental health issues.

    Qualifications


    Job Qualifications:

    • Documentation of education as MD or DO and completion of accredited residency program required
    • Current license to practice medicine in Florida required
    • Board Certification for certification in Psychiatry
    • Must have an active Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration certificate
    • Must maintain current tuberculosis documentation and active CPR certification
    • Must be able to pass background investigation and obtain agency security clearance where applicable
    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience practicing as psychiatrist in a clinical setting preferred
    • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in an clinical setting
    • Experience in correctional mental health care or locked unit preferred

    Available Shift

    • Monday-Friday
    • Day Shift
    • All full-time Psychiatrists participate in rotational on-call approximately every 6 to 8 weeks.  The on-call lasts for 7 days / 24 hours per day and is compensated above and beyond the guaranteed annual salary.
