Erie Neighborhood House, a progressive social service agency serving the Chicago metropolitan area and dedicated to promoting a just and inclusive society, is seeking a Health Educator to join the Health and Leadership division of the Community Wellness Support Services department.

The Health Educator is responsible for facilitating nutrition and cooking programming, including maintaining community garden beds, for a variety of audiences including children, adults, and multigenerational groups, as well as coordinating movement and health programming classes (i.e., Zumba, yoga, meditation) utilizing outside vendors and educators.
This position is mainly located at 1347 W Erie (House) with seasonal weekly visits to 1701 W Superior (Center) and 4225 W 25th (Little Village) locations for programming.
Position Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Design and conduct community assessments to gauge community attitudes and awareness of health and nutrition services and programming, and analyzes statistical public health information, to define the need for developing and distributing educational media.
- Plan and implement educational programs, and develop criteria, staffing, and material requirements to reach program objectives, departmental goals, and to address the outcomes of defined target groups.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of health and nutrition education within assigned areas of responsibility, using pre and post program data to measure a program’s effectiveness against pre-established goals and objectives.
- Research subject in advance to develop presentations and develop targeted lesson plans as a foundation for in-person presentations.
- Collaborate with and provide technical assistance and advice to community groups, public agencies, and professional organizations.
Program Development & Implementation
- Work with health & safety team to develop promotional and educational content materials for our Rico y Sano (nutrition & cooking) programming as well as community garden programming.
- Design and distribute health education materials and aids, including pamphlets, notices, video, and audio clips, images and posters
- Define specific educational objectives for developing community awareness and support for public health programs and services through consultation with Health Initiatives Manager and Department Director.
- Document activities, record information and maintain databases, as well as oversee health education program staff and volunteers
Resource Allocation
- Promote health education initiatives via press releases, media campaigns, social media platforms and websites
- Identify strategic partnerships with organizations and stakeholders that promote health education
Staff Development and Training
- Provide staff, community agencies and organizations with access to health education resources.
- Conduct and/or arrange in-service training to keep departmental staff informed of current trends in public health and nutrition education.
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in health education or related field
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Experience working with an immigrant population.
- Experience working with youth preferred.
- Strong understanding of family dynamics, social issues, and the challenges faced by diverse families.
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
- Commitment to social justice and sensitivity to the assets and challenges of a diverse group of participants.
- Experience with community gardens a plus.
