Recreational Therapist jobs in Lompoc, CA

Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Requires to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Recreational Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Position Summary:

    • The Respiratory Care Practitioner plans, coordinates and implements respiratory patient care on all units and ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the Department Standards of Care.
    •  While demonstrating performance consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of the Department, remains flexible to changing systems, is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice and treats staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.
    • Knowledge of the principals of growth and development over the lifespan along with having the skills necessary to provide respiratory care appropriate to the age of the patients served is also necessary.
    •  The ability to interpret data about the patients’ respiratory status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide the care needed by the patient group is another necessity. 
    • Must work well under stress or tight deadlines.
    • Must work well with supervisors, co-workers, patients/residents, family members and visitors.

    Essential Functions:

    Position Qualifications:

    • Education: Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program or Grand-fathered into the field in 1985.
    • Experience: Two years of full time experience, or it's equivalent, of performing a broad range of licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner duties is preferred. 
    • License: Must possess a valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license issued by the State of California Department of Health OR, be currently certified through the NBRC while an application for licensure is being processed by the State (continued employment is conditional upon successful licensure).
    • Certification: Must have a valid BLS, ACLS, PALS and NRP certification and keep them updated at all times. Certifications required from the American Heart Association.  
    • Skills/Ability: Knowledge of Respiratory Care as it relates to patients of all ages, to include principles, theories, practices/procedures and equipment. Working knowledge of psychosocial needs as well as Patient Rights. Demonstrate safe work practices to include proper body mechanics and use of Standard Precautions. Knowledge of and adherence to applicable Federal, State, and JCAHO regulations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exhibits the ability to organize work assignments and follow through with accuracy, exercises good judgment, demonstrates initiative, emotional stability, tact and poise, Ability to maintain effective working relationship with staff, physicians, patients, and families. Ability to work independently and as department needs require, including overtime, varying shifts, weekends and holidays.
