Recreational Therapist jobs in Wichita, KS

Recreational Therapist plans and directs medically approved therapeutic recreational programs for patients. Organizes activities according to patients' capabilities, needs, and interests. Being a Recreational Therapist conducts programs including symptom management, basic conversation skills, community re-entry, sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts. Prepares reports for patients' physicians describing individual patient symptoms and reactions to therapeutic programs. Additionally, Recreational Therapist conducts activity therapy assessment of a patient's strengths and needs, and recommends therapeutic activity. Documents progress on each patient. Requires a license/certification to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Requires to practice from the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Specialists. Recreational Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.   • POSITION SUMMARY
    Under the supervision of the Gymnastics Coordinator, the Recreation Gymnastics Coach is responsible for the safe instruction of the gymnastics program. The Gymnastics Coach will provide a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Stress the importance of safety to students.
    • Sets an example by exhibiting discipline and safe conduct while teaching.
    • Presents a personal disposition and communicates well with gymnasts and their parents.
    • Demonstrate to class members whenever possible.
    • Responsible for leading warm-ups and cool downs for each gymnastic class.
    • Responsible for putting away all equipment after use.
    • Responsible for cleaning gymnastics’ area as requested.
    • Responsible for filling out accident/incident reports as necessary.
    • Attend trainings as requested.
    • Responsible for lesson plans.
    • Make recommendations for students to be promoted to another class.
    • Provide exceptional customer service by greeting all participants, maintaining a clean and safe facility and demonstrating professional conduct at all times.
    • Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
    • All other duties as requested.
    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Must have an understanding of the sport of gymnastics and have gymnastic experience and be knowledgeable about spotting techniques.
    • Experience building relationships with children, staff, volunteers, and parents
    • Strong public relations, organizational and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong desire to work with children.
    • The ability to work and resolve conflict situations.
    • Certifications: CPR/FA, within 30 days of hire
    WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    • Must regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, and occasionally move up to seventy-five (75) pounds in the form of supplies or equipment.
    • Able to sit, stand and bend to perform appropriate tasks.
    • Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
    • Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.
    • May be required to stand for extended periods of time.
    • Work in different temperature environments.
