• Transports patient to/from patient rooms, diagnostic/therapeutic areas, lobbies, as dispatched in a timely manner.
• Check patient ID bands to verify identification.
• Follows all policies, procedures and safety guidelines.
• Provides wheelchair, stretcher, and luggage assistance, as requested.
• Assists nursing personnel in transferring patients between bed and transport equipment.
• Properly connects and disconnects portable oxygen and sets regulators.
• Maintains adequate supply of wheelchairs in lobbies and equipment rooms.
• Operates equipment in a safe manner.
• Stores oxygen tanks in approved holders.
• Documents assignments neatly and completely on the patient transportation trio log and turns them in at the end of each shift.
• Properly disposes of soiled linen left on equipment. Disinfects equipment after transporting isolation patients or when equipment is contaminated.
• Performs dispatching duties on an as needed basis.
• Follows all safety rules while on the job. Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards.
• Able to report deficiencies and concerns to on-shift supervisor or assigned RN to the patient.
• Meets and complies with Infection Control standards and precautions, HIPAA regulations, and maintains strict confidentiality of patient information.
• Notifies Employee Health nurse of potential employee infection (ie. elevated temperature, cough, shortness of breath).
• Follows facility guidelines for patient visitation; contacts unit director when questions regarding visitation occur.
