Registered Respiratory Therapist jobs in Sumter, SC
Registered Respiratory Therapist assists in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders. Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens to determine levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other gases. Being a Registered Respiratory Therapist also measures the lung capacity of a patient to determine if there is impaired function. Administers treatment prescribed by a physician for the care of patients with abnormalities associated with the process of breathing. Additionally, Registered Respiratory Therapist assumes primary responsibility for respiratory care treatments, including oversight of respiratory therapy technicians. Requires an associate degree. Requires Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification. Requires State License to Practice. Typically reports to a manager. Registered Respiratory Therapist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

Accountabilities Acts independently to perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician’s order, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines or protocols. - 30% Able to obtain blood gasses from all sites. Analyzes and reports results accurately. – 10% Able to initiate, monitor and manage patients requiring all types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation. - 20% Able to initiate and manage all types of airways and associated equipment. - 10% Accurately and completely documents and charges for all respiratory care procedures and tasks and provides patient and family education as appropriate. - 10% Effectively communicates with all members of the healthcare team to include students and nurse shadows. Provides an accurate and complete report. Makes recommendations as appropriate. Communicates well with supervisors, coordinators, or those acting in lieu of the above. – 10% Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives.
