JOB SUMMARY:
The Cancer Registrar is responsible for managing cancer patient databases for the purpose recording information that may be used to help detect cancer earlier, improve treatments and increase survival rates. They examine medical and pathology records to determine patient eligibility for the cancer registry. Creating abstracts of medical records by translating the medical terminology into standardized codes that record the patients diagnosis and treatment information. Responsible for compiling and reporting data from all the medical facilities that treat a patient. Performs other duties in the facility as deemed necessary by administration.

Education: Associates Degree or completion of certificate program in cancer information management. MUST HAVE CURRENT CTR CERTIFICATE OR OBTAIN WITHIN 90 DAYS OF HIRE. Must have taken courses in anatomy, physiology and have an in-depth knowledge of medical terminology. Database management skills are also necessary.
Experience: At least 2 years experience as a cancer registrar.
Language/Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively in English and strong communication skills.
Mental Capabilities: Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
