SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work. General Accountabilities: The Senior Manager, Investment Accounting will be responsible for accounting, analytics, and reporting investment activity for various entities within the Holding Company structure. While this position is located in Des Moines, IA, this role will have exposure to the ultimate corporate parent based in Greenwich, CT, as well as Security Benefit’s headquarters in Topeka, KS. Duties and Responsibilities: Account for various complex investments, including, but not limited to, debt instruments, equity investments, and derivatives. Own the accounting for investment holding entities, from transaction initiation to external reporting. Review variance analysis and other analytical reviews for owned entities. Review ad-hoc analysis as requested and communicate results to senior management. Review quarterly general ledger reconciliations to underlying subledgers and source systems. Complete and assist with various audit-related work papers for interim and annual audits and address additional follow-up questions/inquiries as they arise. Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners. Partner with internal and external business stakeholders to understand and improve processes and financial reporting. Identify and implement changes to areas of responsibility that would streamline or improve quality of processes or end product. Participate and lead projects as assigned in a fast-paced business environment (e.g. new accounting standards; regulations; management requests) Assist in developing and maintaining a strong internal control environment within the Investment Accounting function. Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required CPA designation preferred Minimum 5 years’ experience with more than 3 years’ experience in a public accounting firm (Big 4 preferred) Strong analytical and research skills, as well as the ability to prioritize multiple task. Concerned with stakeholder satisfaction and consistently works to provide a high level of satisfaction. High level of interpersonal skills and integrity. Ability to interpret and apply accounting based on language in contracts and agreements. Self-starter with a collaborative approach who values and encourages teamwork. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently, make decisions and effectively communicate with all levels of management. Strong time management skills with the ability to meet critical deadlines. Experience with ERPs (PeopleSoft, Oracle and PAM preferred) with strong systems aptitude.
