      POSITION TITLE

      • TOSA: High School Athletic and Activities Director / Driver’s Education Instructor

      POSITION DESCRIPTION

      • Baker School District is currently seeking a candidate for a 1.0 FTE High School Athletic and Activities Director / Driver’s Education Instructor beginning the 2023-2024 school year.
      • New Hire Orientation will be August 19, 2024.
      • This position has an additional Extra Duty Stipend in the range of $5,389 - $6,545 for each sport session: Fall, Winter & Spring.

      POSITION OVERVIEW

      • The Teacher on Special Assignment is responsible for providing leadership and communication in the development, organization, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of high school athletic and activity programs. The activities/athletic director must work collaboratively with building administration, the maintenance department, students, parents, staff, coaches, and community members to promote co-curricular activities and athletic programs for high school students that foster academic excellence, leadership, character, skill development, and sportsmanship. Inherent in the position are the responsibilities for athletic and schedule development, state and federal reporting, program evaluation, coach supervision, and financial management of the high school athletic programs. This position will also coordinate travel and logistics for other high school activities including FFA, FBLA, Choir, Band, and/or other high school events. This contract aligns with the teacher calendar with an additional stipend for evening, weekend, holiday, and summer commitments. This role will also be responsible for teaching driver’s education 1 period per day.

      POSITION EXPECTATIONS
      • Assumes responsibility for the scheduling all athletic and co-curricular events.
      • District athletic and co-curricular representation with OSAA.
      • Supervises and directs coaching staff to ensure that proper practice schedules are maintained and that OSAA rules are adhered to by all athletic teams.
      • Arranges for officials and all game management personnel (ticket takers, announcers, event managers, etc.) at all home games.
      • Assures proper supervision of all home and select away contests.
      • Oversees and supervises the coaches in the cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniform inventories (including safety recertification of protective equipment for teams).
      • Oversees and supervises athletic programs and coaching staff including addressing student and/or parent concerns.
      • Arranges for athletic and activity related transportation with the district transportation department.
      • Arranges for applicable meals and lodging for athletic and activity related travel.
      • Inspects facilities and athletic fields for health and safety concerns and make recommendations for improvements.
      • Works directly with the maintenance department with regards to all athletic facilities to ensure overall maintenance and use of sports facilities meet district expectations.
      • Serves as the point person for community use of athletic facilities.
      • Collaborates with the building administrator to coordinate concessions and related ASB fundraising.
      • Develops and implements appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of participants, coaches, advisors, and observers.
      • Ensures adherence to all OSAA and District regulations including medical and safety requirements.
      • Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner both for the District and OSAA.
      • Ensures that proper form(s) (insurance, attendance, medical) are obtained and current for participants prior to practice and/or competition.
      • Ensures that high school activity participants are academically eligible and insured. Conducts grade checks and notifies students and families if a student is not eligible.
      • Serves as the District liaison between local and state athletic authorities.
      • Facilitates necessary meetings with coaches/advisors and other school district team members.
      • Maintains a safe environment for athletes, student body, coaches, officials and spectators.
      • Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
      • Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
      • Leads the interview team when selecting individuals for high school coaching positions.
      • Takes part in the budgeting process and is responsible for keeping all athletic costs within the budgeted amount.
      • Ensures Title IX compliance when allocating funds for various teams to include staffing, fundraising, and donation acceptance.
      • Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff and students.
      • Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
      • Follows and maintains knowledge of all district policies and procedures.
      • Attends work regularly and is punctual and reliable.
      • Maintains the coaches/advisor handbook and co-curricular handbook with input from administration.
      • Teaches one period per day (2 semesters) of Driver’s Education.
      • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

      QUALIFICATIONS
      • Current valid and active unrestricted Oregon teaching license with any endorsement.
      • Is an Oregon Department of Transportation-approved Driver Education Instructor with a valid instructor certification card. (Training will be provided, if needed)
      • Experience in high school athletics or youth activity programs.
      • Experience coaching.
      • Demonstrated ability to organize complex events.
      • Successful experience serving in a leadership role.
      • Experience developing and ensuring expenditures align with the budgeted allocations.
      • Experience organizing and supervising extra-curricular events.

      SALARY INFORMATION
      • The annual certified salary scale for the 2023-2024 school year is $60,000 - $86,521, for 1.0 FTE, depending on years of experience and level of education. (Negotiations for the 2024-2025 school year will begin soon.) Baker School District allows all teaching experience years within the U.S. (substitute years not included) and education to be used in placing the teacher on the salary schedule. Currently, teacher contracts are approximately 175 days.
      • Extra Duty Stipend in the range of $5,389 - $6,545 for each of the following sessions: Fall, Winter & Spring
      • Baker School District 5J offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package with multiple choices available to employees. In addition, the District shall pay the six percent (6%) employee contribution (PERS) required by ORS 238.200 and ORS 238A.330.
      • This position will begin at the start of the 2024-2025 school year.
