Research and Development Supervisor jobs in Worcester, MA

Xtalic Corporation, a dynamic, growing Boston-area technology company, develops and commercializes electroplating processes for new and novel nanostructured metal alloys based on Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)-developed technology. We are seeking a talented lab scientist to join our research & development team reporting to the Vice President of R&D.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on laboratory experimentalist with an interest in research and development. The candidate will test and evaluate new electroplating processes and chemistries and materials to meet the toughest engineering applications. They will also play a pivotal role, partnering with metallurgists and chemists for materials characterization and performance assessment. They will also have an ownership role in laboratory management for existing equipment and technologies as well as specifying new equipment needed to meet overall technology goals.

Experience working in an industrial laboratory environment is preferred. Previous experience working with materials characterization, chemistry and electroplating is a plus. This is an onsite role based in Marlborough, MA.

Job responsibilities for the position will include:

• Materials characterization of plated samples including: SEM, EDS, XRD, XRF, hardness, tribology, color, surface roughness, optical microscopy.
• Hands on electroplating work, testing chemistries and evaluating results in collaboration with Senior Scientists. Experience with IR, UV/VIS is a plus but not required.
• Routine maintenance of laboratory systems such as glove boxes, characterization equipment or sampling and analysis of plating baths.
• Weekly reviews of results and work plans.

Job Requirements:

• BS degree preferred
• BS degree with 1-3 years experience or other with 10 years lab experience.
• Experience with SEM, EDS, XRD, XRF, hardness, tribology, color, surface roughness, optical microscopy preferred.
