Position Title: Research Technician in TICRO Bioservices

The Team: TICRO Bioservices at Trudeau Institute provides high quality in vivo translational research studies to early preclinical phase vaccine and therapeutic product development for pharmaceutical, biotech and academic partners on a global scale. The research performed includes microbiology, virology and immunology as applied to a broad range of critical-path studies for R&D advancement. Studies involve BSL2 and BSL3 pathogens of high relevance to human health and disease. Using established models, our platform and team provides our partners the ability to assess the efficacy and/or elucidate the mechanism of action of their vaccines and therapeutic compounds in early phase (non-GLP) preclinical evaluation.
Your Role: In your role as a Research Technician, you will be a highly motivated and talented individual responsible for assisting with and performing laboratory duties as directed in support of in vivo studies using research animals, and in vitro research projects yielding reliable and reproducible results. You will be expected to help develop and organize study plans, identify appropriate experimental controls, execute laboratory experiments, prepare and verify data, independently troubleshoot technical challenges, and interpret and present results for each study.
What You’ll Do:
· Work independently or as a member of a research team assigned to specific projects, while meeting internal and client timelines and applying scientific rigor to work.
· Plan and carry out specialized experiments using established methods and SOPs (standard operating procedures).
· Collect, organize, and document data using electronic lab notebooks, complete statistical analyses, and generate publication-quality figures.
· Grow cell lines (mammalian and insect), propagate viruses and bacteria using aseptic culture techniques.
· Assist in reagent preparation and general lab upkeep.
· Conduct biological and molecular assays including microbiology, molecular biology, flow cytometry and other analytical methods.
· Handle experimental animals for in vivo studies following standard protocols.
· Participate in regular lab meetings and present data to the research team in a timely manner.
· Work in an environment handling biological, chemical, and infectious agents (e.g., bacteria, parasites, viruses, and radioisotopes) after appropriate safety training in compliance with institutional workplace safety policies.
· Occasional holiday, evening, and weekend work required.
Experience, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
· BA or BS in Biology or related field; or an MS degree.
· Experience and/or interest in immunology, virology, microbiology and/or infectious diseases affecting humans.
· Sound knowledge of standard laboratory procedures, equipment, and record-keeping skills are required along with knowledge of computer software applications, e.g., MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity working with GraphPad Prism and Flowjo is a plus.
· Must be self-motivated, flexible and capable of learning new skill sets.
· Excellent organization skills, time-management skills, and attention to detail.
· Strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex working environment.
· Highly effective oral and written communication skills.
· Experience in a Biosafety Level 2 lab preferred; experience in a Biosafety Level 3 lab is a bonus.
Starting Pay:
· $21.54 per hour
