    Team Description:

    The AI Foundations team is at the heart of bringing our AI vision to life at Capital One. Our work spans the entire research life cycle, from collaborating with academia to building production systems. We work closely with product, technology, and business leaders to apply state-of-the-art AI to our business.

    In this role, you will:

    - Collaborate with a diverse team of data scientists, software engineers, machine learning engineers, and product managers to develop AI-powered products that revolutionize how customers manage their finances.
    - Utilize a variety of technologies, such as Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning, and VectorDBs, to uncover insights from large volumes of numeric and textual data.
    - Build AI foundation models through all stages of development, from design to training, evaluation, validation, and implementation.
    - Engage in impactful applied research to implement the latest AI advancements into next-generation customer experiences.
    - Translate the complexity of your work into tangible business goals, leveraging your strong interpersonal skills.

    - You have contributed to the development of libraries, platform-level code, or solution-level code in existing products.
    - You are a professional who has made significant contributions to the field of machine learning, demonstrated through publications or projects as a first author.
    - You are self-driven and capable of independently pursuing impactful research problems.

    Basic Qualifications:

    - Currently pursuing or have obtained a PhD, with at least 2 years of experience in Applied Research, or possess an M.S. with at least 4 years of experience in Applied Research.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    - PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
    - LLM.
    - PhD focus on NLP or Masters with 5 years of industrial NLP research experience.
    - Multiple publications on topics related to the pre-training of large language models.
    - Experience with training large language models from scratch.
    - Publications in deep learning theory and conferences.
    - Experience with graph neural networks, sequential models, and multivariate time series.
    - Experience with deep learning-based recommender systems.
    - Expertise in optimization of training methods.
    - Experience with compiler design.
    - Experience with fine-tuning large language models.
    - Experience in data preparation, including tokenization, data quality, dataset curation, or labeling.
