Applies scientific methodology to conceptualize, propose, and implement appropriate methodologies for statistical analyses. Maintains and updates centralized research awards database. Assists with grant preparations and clinical trial budgets. Develops and validates reporting data, validates data subsets of funding data, and facilitates quality control procedures to ensure data accuracy.

The Division of Health Services Research within the Department of Urology at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Qualitative Researcher to support several qualitative research studies. The responsibilities include participating in and leading several studies. Candidates should demonstrate understanding and skill in using qualitative research methods, whether through formal education or other work experience.
Essential Functions- Develop data collection guides (e.g.,interviews, focus groups)
- Manage qualitative data including de-identification process, prepare files for importing into qualitative data management software (NVivo), and transcription
- Conduct semi-structured interviews or focus groups using guides that balance predetermined questions with the ability to pursue novel routes of questioning
- Participate in team-based codebook development and establish appropriate inter-rater reliability
- Participate in qualitative coding and analysis across multiple types of data sources (transcripts, videos, photographs)
- Communicate regularly with study team members, collaborators, and research participants
- Play active role in mentoring trainees who wish to learn qualitative research skills (residents, urology fellows, graduate students, and medical students)
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to review ongoing mixed methods studies that integrate quantitative and qualitative work.
- Prepare and deliver presentations of ongoing work at research meetings
- Edit scientific abstracts, manuscripts, and grants with relevant qualitative components.
Duties are primarily sedentary.
