Hamden Warming Center Resident Support Specialist 2

Purpose

The Warming Center’s guiding principle is to save lives during the harshest weather of the year by providing compassionate care for the most vulnerable residents of Hamden .

The Warming Center is a critical program for people who are homeless and generally resistant to or not able to enter shelters.

• Individual (s) must have demonstrated the ability to manage, motivate and direct c lients , time management and organizational skills essential .
• K nowledge base of th e delivery of residential services for the homeless population preferred .
• M ust be aware of mental health, substance abuse, and dual diagnosis issues .
• K nowledgeable of the area network providers; computer literate; culturally competent .
• M ust possess the capacity t o work within a team and promote teamwork .
• M ust have a general understanding of crisis intervention skills, confidentiality, boundaries, universal precautions .
• A ble to foster a Harm Reduction philosophy within the work environment, str ong empathic skills.

Responsibilities

• A ttend all required C olumbus House training and meetings .
• C omplete all required logs, incident reports ; and daily rosters .
• Supervise clients to ensure compliance with all Warming Center rules .
• Assist in providing the security of the Warming Center site .
• A dhere closely to scheduled shift start times and remain on duty until a replacement has arrived.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Supervised by : Director of Emergency Services

Pay Scale : $19.00 per hour

Schedule : Monday through Sunday

Shifts : 7pm-1 2 am & 1 2 am- 7 : 30 am
