Purpose of Organization:
ASPIRE provides unique and engaging programs and services to help prepare young adults for their future careers. We use a collaborative approach to our program design, partnering with government, education, non-profit and industry partners, to offer diverse career exploration opportunities. The goal of the Training & Apprenticeships for Careers in Construction (TACC) program is to prepare individuals for Registered Apprenticeship, training and, ultimately, careers in the construction and utilities industry. This program is provided at no cost to participants through a grant from the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
Position Overview:
The CORE Trainer facilitates the Construction Orientation Readiness Education (CORE) curriculum, an (86) hours technical skill-based program, competed in three-hour sessions, twice a week over (15) weeks. The training is completed in a hybrid fashion, with sessions occurring primarily virtually with a few in-person sessions in Mount Laurel, NJ. This is a temporary, hourly position, paid at $30 per hour. Availability is required from 6-9pm Tuesday and Thursday evenings from mid Sept-January then again from April-July.
CORE is a prerequisite class for any National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), which provides the curriculum used for Registered Apprenticeship classes. The curriculum is designed to introduce participants with no trade knowledge to the industry to make them more employable in the construction and utilities industry. There are (9) modules or chapters in that class which include the following:
1. Basic Safety
2. Basic Math Skills
3. Introduction to Basic Hand Tools
4. Introduction to Basic Power Tools
5. Introduction to Blueprint Reading
6. Basic Rigging Skills
7. Communication Skills
8. Employability Skills
9. Material Handling
Qualifications
· Demonstrated ability to teach/present in an engaging method is required.
· Minimum of 1 year experience in an education, workforce development, training, academic or related field is preferred.
· Experience or knowledge in the constriction/utilities industry is preferred (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, welding, etc..).
· Excellent verbal communication skills.
· Highly positive and enthusiastic style, capable of motivating others.
· Reliable, self-starter who can work independently.
· Proficient with Zoom, Microsoft office and Google applications
· Must have a reliable vehicle, possess a valid driver's license and insurance.
