Construction Groundman- Right of Way (TR24-08) c.
Position Summary :
Assist Equipment Operators in the clearing of transmission and substation right-of-way. Inspect and perform minor maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.
Operate chain saws from the ground to clear brush and small trees. Maintain an acute consciousness of the safety requirements of working near the right-of-way clearing equipment and the hazards for other personnel in the area.
Tasks Duties and Responsibilities :
Perform setup and cleanup tasks at job site. Haul material and equipment to R.O.W. clearing locations. Direct traffic when necessary to ensure safety of pedestrians, motorists and work crew.
Assist in construction and maintenance of transmission lines and substations when necessary. Transport mobile substation trailers (or other trailers as needed).
Assist with installation and maintenance of snake fences. Inspect vehicles and equipment assigned for proper maintenance and operation, makes minor repairs and reports major repair needs.
Keep inventory of tools assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements :
High School Diploma or equivalent certificate. Must possess or obtain a commercial drivers’ license (Standard Transmission) within 9 months of employment.
One (1) year of related equivalent clearing experience preferred.
Physical and Environmental Requirements : Requires working outside in varying environmental locations and in varying weather conditions with extreme temperature ranges.
Requires working at night, inside or outside, in all weather conditions. Requires working near high voltage. Requires lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying weight equal to 50 pounds or more.
Requires climbing ladders and stairs, working on elevated platforms or scaffolding and working from a bucket truck. Requires kneeling, crawling, bending or twisting while lifting arms above shoulders and stooping for extended periods of time, in order to accomplish duties while grasping, pulling, pushing objects, or manipulating tools.
Requires walking and / or standing for extended periods of time. Requires sitting for extended periods of time while riding in a motor vehicle.
Requires wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Requires manual and detailed hand work using both hands. Also may require repetitive manual tasks.
Must be available 24 / 7 in case of emergency call outs. Must have and maintain required driver’s license. Requires hearing within normal range, hearing aids are permitted.
Requires vision within normal range, corrective lenses are permitted.
