    Join the energetic team of Safe Harbor staff committed to serving individuals, family and the community impacted by the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault.

    DESCRIPTION:  Responsible for responding to service needs of victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, assisting with program and facility needs and assisting with community education and outreach activities as assigned.  This includes providing non-resident and crisis intervention services for victims of domestic violence/sexual assault, their families and the community by tending to shelter, answering hotline calls; assisting walk-in’s, and meeting with victim’s one on one. 

     

    Must be able to represent the mission, values and philosophy of Safe Harbor to program participants, employees, and the general public. Model and promote attitudes of non-violence, anti-oppression, inclusiveness, and power-sharing in all facets of position responsibilities, especially when working with community partners.  Be an outspoken voice against violence against women and children, teen dating violence, sexual assault, rigid gender roles, and norms of masculinity within the community through conversation, trainings, social media, and one-on-one conversations. 

     

    PRIMARY DUTIES:

    Direct Service

    • Provide coverage of the 24-hour hotline, shelter and walk in services.
    • Provide direct services including crisis intervention, advocacy, life skills training, parenting support, legal and medical advocacy, information and referrals, safety planning and goal setting for victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. 
    • Provide advocacy, information and referrals for shelter residents with hospital, mental health services, substance abuse treatment programs, law enforcement, social services and other helping providers.  
    • Develops and maintains relationships with appropriate service agencies in the community, which will enhance overall service delivery to the residential clients.  Including but not limited to; substance abuse care and treatment, health care, sexual assault, children’s services and mental health care and transition. 
    • Assist with shelter intakes, orientations and discharge of shelter residents.  Complete exit surveys for residents moving out of shelter.
    • Facilitates cooperative living, support, and resident’s participation in shelter programming. Model and actively promote positive, nurturing interactions between adults and children in shelter.  
    • Communicate shelter rules and expectations to residents.  Promptly address difficulties or problems that arise and discharge in a timely manner.  
    • Collaborates with other staff to assist clients in achieving goals and obtaining needed resources.
    • Respond to the needs of shelter residents by providing supplies as requested, supporting individual needs, mediating conflicts that arise, and supervising overall shelter activities. 
    • Provide accompaniment to local hospitals and law enforcement organizations to victims reporting domestic violence or sexual assault services.


    Database Management

    • Performs data entry to track resident and non-resident services.  Inputs activities, intakes, bed nights, notes and additional entry as necessary. 
    • Maintains monthly, quarterly and annual reports related to client services, statistics, case disposition, and other services provided by the organization.
    • Oversees tracking of shelter assessments and turn aways.
    • Run reports as necessary for grant reporting requirements.
    • Assist with training staff on database system and reporting as needed.


    Administration

    • Responsible for maintaining accurate client and other agency records.
    • Attend all staff meetings and board meetings as requested.
    • Responsible for maintaining accurate client and other agency records.
    • Maintain shelter office space, stock office and shelter supplies.
    • Maintain a clean, professional appearance of facility by following protocol for accepting and storing donations, keep storage areas organized, cleaning, small repairs and other tasks as assigned.

     

     

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS


    • College degree preferred in Social Work, Psychology or related field and/or equivalent relevant experience. 
    • Ability to work sensitively with traumatized populations and to handle crisis effectively.
    • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault.
    • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to multi-task and be thorough in activities and responsibilities.
    • Excellent judgment, an ability to exercise discretion and tact in difficult or confidential situations and an ability to project a positive, professional image to the public.
    • High degree of flexibility and the ability to problem solve and make decisions individually and /or within a team, in order to achieve organizational objectives.
    • Ability to communicate articulately and interact comfortably and effectively with staff, funders, board, community partners and governmental agencies.
    • Ability to work with both youth and adults with a commitment to and experience in working with people from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds and lifestyles.
    • Able to use stairs frequently and lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
    • Driver’s License and clean driving record required.
    • Bilingual a plus
