Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Description

    The Safety Manager at Fairchild Freight plays a crucial role in upholding the safety and regulatory compliance standards within our transportation operations. This position requires a seasoned professional with a comprehensive understanding of FMCSA and DOT regulations, combined with adept organizational skills to effectively manage compliance efforts and mitigate potential risks.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Review and manage pre-hire driver qualification files, including background checks and employment verification.
    2. Conduct new driver orientation sessions to ensure compliance with safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
    3. Maintain meticulous records and manage Driver Qualification (DQ) files in accordance with FMCSA guidelines.
    4. Manage driver profiles in LME and Samsara tracking systems, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
    5. Monitor and track driver hours of service to guarantee compliance with regulatory mandates.
    6. Provide coaching, training, and oversight of driver safety events, and behaviors while documenting disciplinary actions when necessary.
    7. Utilize Samsara camera and tractor telematics data to proactively monitor driver safety.
    8. Manage assignments and configurations of Samsara devices across the fleet.
    9. Supervise the random drug screening program to ensure regulatory compliance.
    10. Conduct both initial and ongoing driver safety training; utilizing both remote and in-person formats.
    11. Collaborate on departmental initiatives aimed at enhancing Safety & FMCSA Compliance.

    Qualifications


    Job Skills & Qualifications:

    1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation compliance, showcasing a robust grasp of industry regulations and standards.
    2. Extensive knowledge of DOT rules and regulations, particularly those of driver qualification, hours of service, and safety protocols.
    3. Possess a deadline-driven mentality with exceptional organizational skills to effectively manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
    4. Possess strong oral and written communication skills in English. The ability to communicate in multiple languages is a plus.
    5. Prior experience with fleet management and tracking software systems, such as LME and Samsara.
    6. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, with advanced computer skills (including typing) to manage data and communication effectively.
    7. Ability to make independent decisions within the job parameters, demonstrating initiative and critical thinking capabilities.
    8. A self-starter mindset, capable of taking proactive measures and working autonomously to accomplish tasks and address compliance-related issues.
