Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. We are seeking a Director of Quality and Food Safety/Environmental Manager to lead our company's safety, quality, and environmental initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food safety and quality management systems and will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a comprehensive quality and safety program that meets all regulatory requirements while improving overall organizational performance.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement food safety, quality management systems, and environmental programs
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Manage and train quality and safety staff
- Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies
- Conduct internal audits and develop corrective action plans
- Develop and implement supplier quality management programs
- Manage customer complaints and implement corrective actions
- Develop and maintain product specifications and ensure product quality
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Develop and maintain HACCP and environmental management systems
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Environmental Science, or related field
- 7 years of experience in food safety, quality, and environmental management
- Strong knowledge of industry regulations and standards (FDA, USDA, ISO, etc.)
- Experience in HACCP, GMP, and environmental management systems
- Experience in managing a team and leading projects
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
