SAFETY MANAGER plans and manages the general health, safety, and loss control policies and procedures of the organization. Monitors and evaluates the workplace to ensure compliance with governmental regulatory agencies. Being a SAFETY MANAGER designs and directs safety training programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Develops worker plans and policies for new employee safety orientation including skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Additionally, SAFETY MANAGER studies, identifies, and reports causes of past accidents and develops recommendations and follow-up to prevent accident recurrences. Requires a bachelor's degree of occupational safety and health or related degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The SAFETY MANAGER manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes.     Job Responsibilities

    • Performs 5 weekly site visits to high hazard/targeted jobs.
    • Tracks Job Safety Evaluation’s for all branches, to be distributed on a monthly basis to department managers on the first week of every month.
    • Ensures 100% of field employees are trained in fall protection.
    • Ensures new employees complete the Safety Orientation course before their start date and coordinate and conduct work specific training for assigned departments.
    • Tracks and schedules all training by employees/subs/departments using our Performance Management Software as well as create and file training certificates in the system.
    • Reviews all safety coordinator hours worked per week for accuracy, including clocking in and out correctly. (Must report corrections or approval of hours by Monday for prior work week)
    • Oversees and ensures that all documents created by Safety Coordinators are accurate and recorded in the appropriate drives or programs.
    • Reviews in-dash cameras for safety compliance.
    • Tracks safety infractions monthly and report results during the Driver Safety Committee Meeting.
    • Oversee and approve safety purchase orders and ensure we are obtaining competitive pricing.
    • Communicates deficiencies and corrections made with the Construction Manager, Foreman, Department Manager and employee to provide feedback via coaching and mentoring for field employees.
    • Schedules and conducts the weekly Safety Coordinator meeting.
    • Schedules and conducts the monthly Driver Safety Committee meetings.
    • Attends all Safety related meetings to provide feedback and guidance in any Safety related manner.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

    Education

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Construction Management.

    Experience

    • 5 years of Safety Management experience
    • 5 years of overseeing a team of 5 or more employees

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements and recommendations.
    • Proven ability to recruit, train and motivate personnel in order to balance and build functional safety team; must have the ability to manage a small staff, while still working autonomously
    • Must be an independent worker while contributing to a team environment.
    • Strong organizational and follow-up skills required to manage multiple tasks.
    • Must work well in a fast-paced and high-volume environment.
    • A strong work ethic and a high level of self-motivation
    • Must possess leadership skills and attributes and have the ability to work with and successfully with other departments and leaders.
    • Osha 500 Certification Preferred
    • CPR/AED/First Aid Required
    • Certified Safety Professional Required
    • Certified Construction Health and Safety Technician Preferred
    • Must be Bilingual in English and Spanish
