SAFETY MANAGER plans and manages the general health, safety, and loss control policies and procedures of the organization. Monitors and evaluates the workplace to ensure compliance with governmental regulatory agencies. Being a SAFETY MANAGER designs and directs safety training programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Develops worker plans and policies for new employee safety orientation including skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Additionally, SAFETY MANAGER studies, identifies, and reports causes of past accidents and develops recommendations and follow-up to prevent accident recurrences. Requires a bachelor's degree of occupational safety and health or related degree. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The SAFETY MANAGER manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of department processes.     Position Summary: A Case Manager/Child Safety Specialist offers valuable support and assistance to children and families in need. This role will require good time management and critical thinking skills. In this position you would assess child safety and risk while working with families, agencies and the courts for case planning. This is a fast paced environment which requires organization, a high degree of expertise and skill in maintaining established quality and accuracy in work assignments.

    There are two different types of Case Manager: Investigative and Ongoing

    Investigative Specialist:

    • Investigate claims of child abuse and neglect and document all information assessed.
    • Interview and gather information in order to assess the family, in order to determine if abuse or neglect claim is substantiated.
    • Respond to crisis situations and explore options of child removal if warranted.
    • Explore placement options such as foster homes, kinship homes, or group homes when a child is removed.

    Ongoing Specialist:

    • Assist families in achieving permanency through reunification, guardianship, adoption, or the Young Adult Program.
    • Assess and facilitate services to assist families in making changes to protect and ensure their children’s safety.
    • Help families engage with community partners and contracted agencies to assist in achieving safety for their children.
    • Organize Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings to ensure all participants are aligned on the goal of helping the children.
    • Continuously document client activity to ensure accuracy and consistency.

    Training: During the first 22 weeks of employment you will be classified as a Department of Child Safety Trainee, and will be in training full time. Your training will be a mix of classroom and on-the-job field experience.

    Salary: $21.70 per hour

    Step Increases

    Child Safety Specialists are eligible for incremental pay increases as follows:

    • Successful completion of the 22 weeks CORE training $22.59/hour
    • One year of Child Safety Specialist service $24.11/hour
    • Two years of Child Safety Specialist service $25.96/hour
    • Three years of Child Safety Specialist service $27.66/hour
