Job Overview:

The Safety Manager will be responsible for managing the safety program at two subsidiaries of North Star Companies: Bowling Green Flight Center in Bowling Green, OH and Premier Flight Center in Springfield, MO. The manager will be based at Bowling Green Flight Center and will also remotely manage the safety program at Premier Flight Center. Occasional travel to Springfield, MO will be required to fulfill essential safety responsibilities, attend specific in-person meetings, conduct audits, participate in events, and manage other critical safety functions.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Manage safety and ensure compliance with aviation regulations, company policies, and other applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

• Assist in creating and maintaining policies and procedures for all operations and recommend revisions to ensure risk is kept as low as reasonably practical.

• Develop and coordinate employee and student safety training and facilitate training completion.

• Maintain, promote, and grow the internal safety reporting program.

• Lead investigations of safety events and reports. Partner with on-site personnel to assist with investigations and follow up on reports. Work with management to initiate necessary corrective actions.

• Facilitate the identification of safety and environmental risks and promote the reduction or elimination of potential accidents, occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and safety-related financial losses.

• Perform or coordinate periodic safety inspections and audits as needed. Share critiques and results with relevant departments and company management.

• Inspect specific areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or first-aid supplies.

• Assist departments in working through and documenting the change management process to keep risk as low as reasonably practical.

• Perform data analysis using data from various programs to measure and report on the effectiveness of risk controls.

• Develop and share required reports, conduct briefings and safety training, and coordinate safety stand-down events.

• Develop and publish safety promotion content for the company through various mediums (newsletter, digital screens, flyers, etc).

• Review current best practices from the FAA and industry sources applicable to our operations and make recommendations to departments and company management.

• Maintain emergency response plan and procedures.

• Maintain inventories of hazardous materials or hazardous wastes to ensure correct handling of materials.

• Promote safety awareness and contribute to the safety culture at North Star Companies.

• Serve as Chair of Bowling Green Flight Center’s and Premier Flight Center’s internal Safety Review Board.

• Serve as Chair of Bowling Green Flight Center’s Safety Council.

• Work closely with the General Managers and department leadership and regularly report to the Director of Safety about identified risks and the overall status and needs of the safety programs at Bowling Green Flight Center and Premier Flight Center.

• Attend and participate in Corporate Safety Department meetings.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree preferred

• Safety background preferred

• Aviation background preferred

• Safety Management System experience preferred

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
