The School nurse is supervised by the Director of Finance and Operations. This position is responsible for medication administration and providing preventative, acute forms, and follow-up care for infants through 8th grade, as well as our summer camp students between June and August. This position will also lead the wellness committee, which comes up with great at work wellness plans for faculty and staff.
Essential Job Functions:
Preventive Care includes health education/prevention efforts for students/campers; CPR and First Aid training for staff and faculty; ensuring that student vaccinations are current; and communication as needed with administrators, faculty, staff, and parents promoting student health and wellbeing.
Acute Forms and Follow-up Care includes providing direct nursing care for sick or injured students such as assessment, triage, and referral to emergency services (911), urgent care, physicians, or other healthcare professionals; accompanying students or staff to the hospital and remaining until parents arrive.
Medication Administration Includes distribution of prescription and nonprescription medications to students; communicating with parents about medication issues; updating communicable disease letter as needed and assisting with electronic updates of health forms and procedures for all students; and implementing federal, state, and local health regulations.
Administrative Duties include maintaining CPR certification; collection and maintenance of student health and medication records; participating in school-wide events, professional development activities, and meetings; carrying a School cell phone at all times when on campus; and maintaining strict professional confidentiality regarding health information and records. Help assist with monitoring the front desk as needed.
Qualifications
Licensed registered nurse; Bachelor's degree in nursing or closely related field; detail-oriented, meticulously organized, and able to work independently; computer literate. Able to juggle multiple demands, including frequent questions and phone calls from staff, parents, and students. Experience with and knowledge of School nursing preferred.
