Full-Time School Nurse
Position Purpose
The school nurse will report to the Executive Director of Human Resources to coordinate and implement all health related programs for the district in order to ensure the fullest possible educational opportunity for students. Leadership in the design and implementation of health policies and procedures is expected. The school nurse, as a leader of the district medical team of two licensed practical nurses, 9 health liaisons and 9 assistant health liaisons is expected to promote a climate of health and well-being for the general school population and staff.
Qualifications:.
1. Experience in school, public health and/or pediatric nursing desired.
2. Ability to work independently and make decisions in accordance with established policies and regulations.
3. Requires strong analytical and computer skills, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, strong communications skills
4. Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations as they relate to public health.
5. Knowledge and practical experience regarding basic computer skills, Microsoft Word, Access and Excel including MOS Certification as determined by Administration. A willingness to learn and become proficient with all other current district standard software.
6. General knowledge of public health management information systems and how to use them to support the school environment.
7. Engage in professional learning as aligned with school and district.
8. Partner with others in the school community to share expertise and create plans toward educational and social progress.
9. Develop professional development and student seminars around specific goal areas and social skills.
10. Coordinate action with community care partners, to enhance collaboration and service delivery.
11. Experience in the design and participation of staff training initiatives and individualized health plans.
12. Demonstrates interest and participation in a wide range of professional growth opportunities through such activities as advanced coursework, in-service programs, conference attendance and/or other related activities.
13. Demonstrates and verifiable record of excellent, positive and productive relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds and a commitment to equal opportunity for all.
14. Such other qualifications as the Board of Education deem acceptable.
Performance Responsibilities:
Responsibilities to Students:
Reports incidents (e.g. suspected child abuse) for the purpose of maintaining the personal safety of students and providing a positive learning environment; adhering to applicable laws, district policies, and procedures.
Responsibilities to Staff and District:
As scheduled by the central office, the nurse shall meet with the medical assistants, assess the needs of students and schools, and then visit schools accordingly.
Serve as liaison between the County Health Department, public health nurses, schools, parents, clinics, and other agencies.
Refer cases, as needed, to the County Health Department, clinics and physicians, and provide follow-up coordination.
Investigate, diagnose and report, as required, all communicable diseases such as measles, chicken pox, etc.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education $45,000-$47,000 , Exempt
