    PURPOSE OF ROLE:


    The Upper School Principal reports to the Executive Head of School. Each principal is charged with the comprehensive responsibility for all activities involving students and faculty in their respective divisions (Grades 1-7).


    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • Master’s degree from an accredited educational institution; preferably in educational leadership or a related Elementary Education curriculum area.
    • A minimum of five (5) years teaching and three (3) years administrative
    • experience in an elementary or other related setting.
    • Ability to communicate and work with a diverse group of stakeholders.
    • Proven effectiveness in written and oral communication.
    • Desire to seek continuous improvement and demonstrate a willingness to reflect on leadership behaviors and practice, hear and apply feedback to continuously improve.


    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


    • To maintain unity between the school’s mission statement and all activities of that division.
    • To act as the educational leader of the school division, responsible for its day-to-day operation; to direct the activities of the school’s instructional and non-instructional staff in performing their duties.
    • To function as the chief articulator of that division’s programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed and consistent with their roles.
    • Observe, supervise, and help evaluate the faculty in developing and implementing the curriculum; supervise the learning process; and review and assess the academic programs.
    • To lead the Academic Policies/Curriculum Committee in articulating the school mission, school goals, department goals, course objectives, materials, methods, and means of assessment.
    • To provide an orderly, controlled environment where learning can occur and a supportive school climate that reflects high morale.
    • To be aware of the educational, physical, social, and psychological needs of the members of our school community and to develop plans for meeting these needs.
    • To oversee and direct the sponsors' activities of various student activities and faculty committees.
    • To ensure compliance with legal requirements of government regulations and agencies; to maintain the educational standards established by the State of Louisiana and those agencies that examine and accredit the school.
    • To make recommendations to the head of the school regarding faculty hiring, retention, and assignment.
    • Establish programs for the orientation of new teachers, for in-service training of all teachers, and the evaluation of classroom teachers to ensure that teachers are familiar with and adhere to school policies in all areas of the school's operation.
    • To strive for unity, harmony, and cooperation through tact, helpfulness, respect, and recognizing individual differences and each teacher's unique abilities and strengths.
    • To conduct regular meetings with faculty that will address routine school matters and stimulate the exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical interest and concern.
    • To oversee the coordination of the school's extracurricular activity programs; assist in planning and presenting school assemblies and programs; maintain a comprehensive calendar of school events; and keep the entire school community informed of various school programs and activities.
    • To provide for students' academic guidance, maintain complete academic records on all students, and oversee the grading and reporting of standards and methods teachers use to measure student achievement.
    • To establish guidelines for proper student conduct and dress, maintain student discipline consistent with school policies, monitor students’ adherence to established school rules, and maintain accurate student attendance and citizenship records.
    • To be a visible presence in all areas of the school and work toward resolving all problems - routine and unique - as they arise.
    • To prepare a master school class schedule and to assign teachers and students to classes and other obligations.
    • To counsel teachers on classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures.
    • To assist in the admission process for the testing, interviewing, and evaluating of applicants for enrollment.
    • Monitor facilities while always promoting safety.
    • To perform other duties as assigned by the head of school.

You regularly gather, document and analyze evidence of learning from around your school and use this to inform your decision-making process and work with your teachers to identify targets and action steps for improving learning. You have a clear understanding of your school’s market, new and existing target audiences and understand how best to reach and engage with them, consistently tailoring and personalizing your message and differentiators as appropriate. You work closely with ISP regional marketing to optimize the branding of your school and communicate an inspiring vision of the offering to attract the right families and students as well as making current families ambassadors for the school. With the support of ISP regional admissions, you ensure that families have the best and most personalized experience possible during the admissions process, maintaining a high lead to enrolment conversion rate. This all translates into enrolment growth and student retention. You use parent feedback and sentiment to guide future plans and parent engagement
    • Commercial Success and KPIs. You see the school as your business to nurture and grow. You understand your commercial responsibility for the school as Head, co-creating, owning and taking responsibility for your school delivering on its targets and KPIs (financial, learning, people, marketing, health & safety and safeguarding). You successfully lead your team and organize and manage resources to drive profitability. You specifically monitor and communicate progress towards enrolment growth and income generation KPIs, thereby facilitating the achievement of your school’s financial goals. You identify and implement new and improved ways of doing things that have a demonstrable impact on the school’s success. Through the school’s finance team, you ensure fees are paid promptly and that any debts are managed and recovered appropriately, with sensitivity to individual situations. As well as enrolment growth, you recognize the importance of student retention as a priority and this focus feeds your approach to building parent relationships. You drive the delivery of the parent and employee NPS and engagement surveys, taking action where improvement is needed and to ensure good becomes even better.
