    The Scientific Writer/Editor serves on a team of interdisciplinary scientific professionals in providing environmental compliance support to federal agencies nationwideThe position requires a strong understanding of the NEPA process with experience preparing Environmental Assessments (EA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and Biological Assessments (BA)The position requires familiarity with the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Historic Preservation Act, and Clean Air Act, along with state environmental permitting and review.  

     

    Supervisory Responsibilities: This is a non-supervisory position but does require a high level of collaboration with Environmental Consulting Services (ECS) teammates in the performance of duties 

    Job Classification: Permanent; Full Time   

    Duty Station: Oklahoma City, OK (relocation reimbursement authorized) 

    Compensation 

    Chloeta reserves the right to offer any candidate above or below the listed compensation amount based on experience or business needs.

    • Salary: $62,193 - $93,289  
    • FLSA Exempt 
     

    Duties/Responsibilities 

    • Coordinate with clients in meeting environmental compliance requirements. 
    • Effectively communicate project details and record stakeholder input.  
    •  Provide technical writing and document editing for all aspects of environmental consulting projects in support of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other natural resources planning documentation and consultation. .  
    • Utilize knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal environmental regulation, including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act (ESA), and Clean Air Act to complete and edit required NEPA and related documentation.  
    • Coordinate with other environmental professionals, such as GIS specialists, biologists, geologists, engineers, Tribal Historical Preservation Officers (THPOs), etc. to complete tasks.  
    • Coordinate with external stakeholders in the production and approval of NEPA reports, including facilitating document reviews and comment adjudication.  
    • Prepare environmental technical reports such as community impact assessments and Integrated Natural Resource Management Plans (INRMP).  
    • Take notes and produce notes from stakeholder meetings. 
    • Utilize knowledge of scientific and technical formatting standards to review and edit scientific documents. 
    • Assist the Business Development Department by analyzing requests for proposals and providing feedback on the level of effort required for proposed environmental contracts.  
    • Provide guidance to governmental agencies, environmental programs, industries, or the public.  
    • Review and study environmental technical standards, guidelines, and regulations to remain abreast of industry trends.   
    • Serve in an interdisciplinary team as a writer-editor for LMP revision and National Environmental Policy Act review. Examine written material for clarity and consistency with policies and style requirements, proofread and correct errors, format, style, and grammar in a variety of documents and assignments, and other printed media. 
    • Review, edit and finalize documents for publishing, including format, references, distribution, punctuation, grammar, applicability to audiences, consistency, and overall publishing rules and guidance.  
    • Manage the development of, and reviewing, documents prepared by agency personnel and others including contractors, grantors, and other agencies.  
    • Edit and re-write portions of drafts to gain uniformity, clarity, and logical presentation of ideas.
    • Review prepared letters, memorandums, reports, and other documents.  
    • Perform section 508 compliance on all final deliverables.

    Required Skills/Abilities 

    • Ability to review, edit, and finalize variety of technical environmental documents for clarity and consistency and to proofread and correct errors based on client-approved style guides. 
    • Ability to simultaneously review and edit multiple documents at varying stages of the document writing process. 
    • Team mentality and strict adherence to deadlines. 
    • Knowledge of applicable land management regulations, particularly the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). 
    • Ability to compile and evaluate information, presenting the results clearly and concisely to various audiences.  
    • Established positive relationships with client staff leveraging prior NEPA experience.  
    • Maintain proficiency and expertise in NEPA, including tracking regulatory changes and agency best practices.  
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team with other scientific professionals.  
    • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word and Excel.  
    • Ability to effectively manage time to meet deliverable targets and deadlines, work well under time constraints, balance multiple priorities, and track progression of various documents concurrently.  
    • Excellent technical writing/editing and strong verbal and written communication skills. 
     

    Education and Experience 

    • Required: Bachelor of Science in Biology, Environmental Science or related natural science discipline.   
    • Required: Three (3) years of experience creating written content, editing, checking for document organization, logical reading order, content accuracy, and consistencies in and among documents, formatting, spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and syntax. 
    • Preferred: Three (3) years of experience related to Land Management Plan revisions and/or combined experience related to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), environmental planning, managing and overseeing the preparation of environmental reports, environmental documents, monitoring plans, and other supporting documents required through the environmental analysis process consistent with applicable law and regulation. 
    • Preferred: Experience performing Section 508 compliance on documents. 
     

    Physical Requirements 

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer 
    • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc.

    Pre-employment Requirements

Additionally, employees are required to complete the federal I-9/E-Verify process.
