POSITION SUMMARY:
The Analytical Research Scientist will be responsible for advanced operation and maintenance of chromatography and microscopy instrumentation and overall good laboratory practice. This position will also require the ability to perform standard methods of analysis as well as develop and execute new and/or improved methods for completion of R&D departmental objectives as well as support for Production and Quality Control and Assurance departments. In addition, reporting of results and communication of ideas and data within and outside the department will be expected
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for operation of chromatographic and microscopic instrumentation in the laboratory.
• Duties can include the day-to-day operational requirements of general equipment normally used in a general analytical chemistry environment.
• Responsible for helping contribute to the overall safety and cleanliness of the laboratory which will include assistance in the management of hazardous waste.
• Initiative and creativity in lab operation and/or experimentation will be expected.
• The successful candidate will be expected to continue learning and grow as we build our instrumental and technological base within our lab in the coming years.
• Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
• BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry and/or a Biological Science. Candidates with higher education (MS or PhD) will be a plus.
• 5 years of experience is desired in an analytical lab setting with hands-on experience in equipment operation and maintenance.
• Experience in a food and/or industrial setting is desired.
• Proficiency in HPLC, GC-MS and UV-VIS is required.
• Experience with NIR, FT-IR and SEM is a plus.
• A working knowledge or experience with carbohydrate chemistry is ideal, but the ability to adapt to protein/peptide-based projects is a plus.
Experience with the following will be a plus:
• FT-IR, NIR, and SEM.
Periodic tasks could include:
• Maintenance of Ultrapure water systems.
• Housekeeping and policing of common bench areas as well as your bench area.
• Ability to adapt to a changing lab environment/workload.
In addition, we will draw on your continual experience and educational growth to establish new methodologies and technologies as new analytical advances are discovered.
TRAVEL:
Other than periodic travel for training and technical conferences relevant to R&D objectives, travel will be light.
