Overview

The Senior Solutions Engineer uses business knowledge and technical expertise to implement strategies, evaluate products, and build upon an infrastructure that supports the changing needs of our customers. In this role, the Solution Engineer will design, develop, and integrate complex work systems for every stage of a lifecycle. This role is responsible for reliably delivering mission-critical infrastructure with an eye toward accessibility, optimization, and security. This position will also work to  improve existing solutions thereby driving to an outcome of a  well maintained, robust, documented, secure and dependable IT infrastructure.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• System Design: Designing and planning the architecture of IT systems, including networks, servers, storage, and virtualization technologies, to ensure they meet business requirements and performance standards.
• Integrate and optimize various AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, VPC, CloudWatch, and others to build scalable, high-performance, and cost-effective solutions.
• Design and implement backup, replication, and disaster recovery strategies for AWS resources and applications. Ensure data integrity, availability, and resilience in case of failures or outages.
• Docker and Kubernetes are popular containerization technologies used by infrastructure engineers. They create, deploy, and manage containers to package and run applications consistently across different environments.
• Use automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, and Terraform to automate provisioning, configuration, deployment, and management tasks. Orchestration tools like Kubernetes help manage containerized applications at scale.
• Work with networking technologies such as routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and VPNs to design and manage network infrastructure.
• Work with protocols like TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing protocols.
• Researching and evaluating new technologies, tools, and methodologies to improve infrastructure efficiency, scalability, and security.
• Security Implementation: Implementing and maintaining security measures to protect the organization's infrastructure, data, and systems from cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
• Configure and manage AWS security services like AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), AWS Security Groups, and AWS Web Application Firewall (WAF).
• Performance Monitoring: Monitoring system performance, analyzing data, and identifying areas for optimization and improvement to ensure maximum uptime and reliability.
• Disaster Recovery: Developing and implementing disaster recovery plans and procedures to minimize downtime and data loss in the event of a system failure or disaster.
• Compliance and Governance: Ensuring that infrastructure designs and implementations comply with industry regulations, standards, and best practices, as well as internal policies and procedures.
• Collaboration: Collaborating with IT teams, including developers, network engineers, and security specialists, to integrate infrastructure components and support overall IT initiatives.
• Documentation: Creating and maintaining documentation, including system diagrams, configurations, and procedures, to facilitate knowledge sharing and troubleshooting.
• Vendor Management: Working with vendors and third-party providers to evaluate and procure hardware, software, and services that align with the organization's infrastructure needs and goals.

Travel

• May be required to travel to other worksites as needed

Required Education, Skills, and Knowledge

• Master’s degree and 6 years of Information Systems experience or bachelor’s degree and 8 years of Information Systems experience
• Experience with AWS Technology stack and with AWS Services such as EC2, S3,
• Experience working with teams of data scientists, software engineers and business experts to drive insights
• Ability to understand new business requirements and prioritize them for delivery
• Experience working in biopharma/life sciences industry with Validation
• Ability to support a GxP environment with related GMP procedures.
• Hands on experience writing SQL for Cloud RDBMS
• Experience working in an agile environment
• Excellent written, verbal communication skills and presentation skills.
• Ability to mentor or provide best practices to other members of the team.
• Must be detail oriented and self-motivating.
• The ability to work in a flexible, team-oriented environment is required.

Preferred Education, Skills, and Knowledge

• 8 years overall Cloud Engineer or Network Engineer experience
• 3 years in an Engineering role using public cloud solutions such as AWS
• 3 years of experience in a IT process frameworks like ITIL, etc.
• 1 years of experience in a CyberSecurity frameworks like NIST, etc.

Physical Demands and Activities Required

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.

• Must be able to communicate with others to exchange information.
