Being a Soil Conservationist applies a wide range concepts, practices, and procedures from two or more specialized fields of science, such as agronomy, soil science, forestry, or agriculture. May require a bachelor's degree in agricultural sciences or a related field with at least 5 years of work experience. Additionally, Soil Conservationist may direct the work of a small group of employees. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.     Job Summary:

    Supervise and coordinate the activities of workers engaged in soil cement placement for various construction projects.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Planning and Scheduling: Develop work schedules and assign duties to ensure efficient soil cement placement operations and adaptability to fluctuating workloads.

    2. Collaboration and Problem-Solving: Work closely with the construction team, including workers and managers, to resolve issues related to soil cement placement.

    3. Quality Control Oversight: Monitor the soil cement placement process from start to finish, ensuring adherence to specified procedures and quality standards.

    4. Instruction and Communication: Clearly communicate work orders and instructions related to soil cement placement to laborers and technicians.

    5. Material Specification Compliance: Verify that the materials used for soil cement mixing, like soil types and cement, match the specifications outlined in work orders.

    6. Reporting and Coordination: Notify relevant personnel or departments about progress, materials used, and any challenges encountered in the soil cement placement process.

    7. Performance Evaluation: Assess employee performance in soil cement tasks and prepare detailed appraisals.

    8. Hands-on Leadership: Lead by example by performing soil cement placement duties as required, undertaking more complex tasks, and assisting the team in their work.

    9. Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain meticulous records and reports on employee time, wages, material usage, and inspection results related to soil cement placement.

     

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    May supervise up to 10 employees.

     

    Requirements:

    Perform a variety of duties which may often change; work within standards of accuracy.   Must be able to stand or walk for long periods;  use arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects; lift and carry materials weighing  up to 50 pounds, climb up and down ladders, scaffolds and other objects; carry tools and equipment; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; see and hear well (naturally or with correction).  Ability to read and interpret blueprints, documents, instructions, and procedure manuals.  Routine report writing.  Effective communication skills vital. 

    Education and Experience:

    High school diploma preferred.  Two years related supervisory experience.  CPR, First Aid and Confined Space Entry certifications.

    Safety Considerations: 

    Typically works 12 hours per day, 6-7 days per week in extreme hot and cold environments.  Wears all required personal protective equipment on daily basis.    May be exposed to poisonous snakes, insects and similar.    May be required to work on variable terrain in performance of duties.  May be required to operate motor vehicle.  Routinely lifts/carries up to 50 pounds unassisted on daily basis.

    • Must maintain integrity of the job site.
    • May be required to work at night.
