    DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
    The Special Events Coordinator coordinates all Community Services special events and performs professional work in the development, administration, and evaluation of a wide range of special events.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    Plan, coordinate and stage special events, festivals, concerts, and related activities and serves as a liaison to events produced by the organization.
    Coordinate services, materials and support systems needed from other agencies and Community departments.
    Meet and coordinate with Community interest groups; serve as a liaison to cultural event funding panel.
    Supervise temporary and volunteer staff.
    Develop, coordinate, monitor and provide fiscal management of Community-wide special event budget; maintain financial records, including revenue and fees generated by events, event operational costs, budget projections, and analyses.
    Negotiates and monitors contracts for service providers, i.e. sound, portable toilets, trash disposal, vendors, suppliers, contract employees and barricades for Community-wide special events.
    Solicit potential sponsors for Community-wide special events and distribute sponsor packets designed for each event.
    Prepare written reports and evaluations on Community-wide events.
    Perform other related duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
    Knowledge of planning, administration, organization, scheduling, coordination, and promotional activities related to the staging of special events, concerts, festivals, and related activities.
    Knowledge of program budgeting and financial management.
    Knowledge of recruitment and management of volunteers, recruitment and coordination of sponsors.
    Knowledge of coordination of materials, services, and support systems required for staging special events.
    Knowledge of Community regulations and policies regarding risk management and safe work and recreational practices.
    Ability to assess Community needs for special event activities.
    Ability to coordinate the planning, scheduling, implementation, promoting and staging of special events, concerts, and festivals.
    Ability to effectively plan, supervise and coordinate work of others.
    Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
    Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
    Ability to prepare and deliver oral reports.
    Ability to assist in recruiting, organizing and coordinating volunteers.
    Ability to operate standard office equipment related to the position and a personal computer using program applications appropriate to assigned duties.
    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials and the general public.
    Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
    Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, business administration, or closely related field and a minimum of three (3) years experience in municipal special event management or related field to include one (1) year supervisory experience or any combination of education, training, or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:
    Tribal Driving Permit can be required.

    Required to pass a background check.
