Assistant Community Home Manager

  • The general function of the department:

    To service developmentally disabled adults in a 24-hour residential setting.

    The primary purpose of this position:

    Assists the group home managers in running and maintaining group homes and manages in the absence of any of the managers.

    Specific duties and responsibilities

    • Maintains established division policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
    • Guards the confidentiality of client information from both outside persons and Archway Program employees that do not require this information to perform their job duties.
    • Provide culturally sensitive services that are based on knowledge of cultural diversity to accomplish quality client care.
    • Customer Service: respect, flexibility, knowledge, confidence, professionalism, pleasant attitude, patience, and helpfulness. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Archway Programs standards.
    • Cooperate fully with Archway Programs, Department of Human Services, and Division of Developmental Disabilities representatives in any and all inspections and/ or investigations.

    Examples of Work:

    Note: The examples of work listed below are for illustrative purposes only. The Assistant Manager may not perform all duties listed. Conversely, all duties performed on the job may not be listed.

    • Assists in planning weekly schedules for staff.
    • Assists in developing, updating, monitoring, implementing and evaluating IHP.
    • Actively participates, cooperates an complies with Archway Quality Assurance Policy and Procedures.
    • Actively works to maintain compliance with Licensing standards, DDD Policy and Procedures and Archway Policy and Procedure.
    • Assists in planning consumer shopping trips.
    • Assists in planning recreational activities.
    • Runs weekly consumer meetings.
    • Assists in consumer fund management.
    • Supports group home manager at all times in all phases of supervision, when necessary.
    • Responsible to see that daily chores are performed by residents and staff.
    • Performs any and all other assigned duties.
    • Is on-call as required and assigned by the GH Manager or GH Coordinator
    Qualifications

    Minimum educational requirements:

    • high school diploma or GED required
    • bachelor’s degree – preferred

    Minimum experience required:

    • one year- residential or health care
    • other - One year working with developmentally disabled

    Other knowledge, skills, and certifications required:

    • Appointees will be required to possess a valid driver’s license only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position
    • Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.
    • Persons with mental or physical disabilities are eligible as long as they can perform the essential functions of the job after reasonable accommodation is made to their known limitations. If the accommodation cannot be made because it would cause the employer undue hardship, such persons may not be eligible.

    • CPR, FA, and DDD pre-service within 90 days of hire.
    • Any and all other trainings/ in-services as assigned by Archway Programs.

    The number of employees supervised by this position:

    Jointly responsible for supervising 8-15 employees, along with the Group Home Manager

    The usual internal and external contacts:

    • Internal - all group home staff, group home manager, program director, administrative staff, consumers.
    • External – doctors, other human service agencies, parents, and vendors

    Note: Employee must obtain and provide certification of pre-employment physical and mantoux test at their own expense with verifies freedom from restrictions which would impair job performance and freedom from tuberculosis. Physical and mantoux must be completed annually thereafter at the employee’s expense.

    Varies - Employees help consumers with every aspect of daily living. Travel may include doctor’s appointments, shopping, workshops, occasional trips, etc.
