Staff Nurse - RN - Recovery Room provides professional nursing care to assigned post-operative patients. Monitors vital signs, administers medications, including intravenous medications, and develops patient care plans in conjunction with surgeons and anesthesiologists. Being a Staff Nurse - RN - Recovery Room provides support to patients waking up from anesthesia, including bandage maintenance, pain management, nausea treatment, and ensuring patients receive adequate rest, fluids and nutrients. Observes patients' progress, records observations in patient medical records, and updates attending physicians directly when necessary. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Recovery Room teaches patients how to clean bandages, take medication, and follow post-surgical care instructions. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Summary:
The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients within a assigned unit with a commitment to quality and safety. Professional nursing practices, requiring specialized knowledge judgment and skill are performed using the process in accordance with hospital policy, procedures and nursing philosophy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Provide direct, professional nursing care to specified population of patients in the acute care setting.
2. Develops a patient centered plan of care based on individualized needs.
3. Maintains confidentiality of the patient medical record.
4. Counsel and educate patients and their care partner on treatment plans.
5. Administer medication following the five rights of medication administration.
6. Provide wound care and dressing changes, as applicable.
7. Read and interpret patient information, making treatment decisions, when appropriate.
8. Consult with physicians to decide on best treatment decisions when appropriate
9. Performs nursing interventions to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
10. Observe and record patient behavior and response to nursing interventions.
11. Demonstrates quality, safe and effective patient care.
12. Provides delegation to unlicensed assistive staff and Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) staff
13. Demonstrates standards of excellence which includes practicing nursing with core values of compassion, accountability, respect, teamwork and integrity.
14. Demonstrates understanding and executes quality and performance improvement plans. (only for RN evaluation)
15. Participates in decision making and takes actions based on ethical principles. (only for RN evaluation)
16. Provides timely and accurate documentation of patient care.
