Student Union Director directs and oversees all operations of the Student Union in accordance with the university or college's policies and procedures. Responsible for directing all functions including coordinating facility use, administering student services and activities, and ensuring proper safety and security measures. Being a Student Union Director supervises, hires, trains, and evaluates professional and student staff. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Student Union Director typically reports to top management. The Student Union Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Student Union Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.   • The Director of Student Support Services is responsible for student success through the development, implementation, and coordination of Baldwin Community Schools’ Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Integrated Systems Framework (ISF), assisting students in the progress of their academic and behavioral success and linking community resources to the school. The director will work directly with students, school staff, and families, identifying barriers that limit student success. This individual will develop systems, implement strategies and coordinate resources to improve attendance, reduce behavior incidents and support the overall academic and non-academic needs of Baldwin Community Schools’ students and families.

    DISTRICT DESCRIPTION: Baldwin Community Schools is a small school district in Lake County, serving approximately 500 students. The district features a diverse population and provides many supports for students, including reduced class sizes, student support specialists, and social and emotional support services.     ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Work under the guidance of the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services to implement Baldwin Community Schools’ MTSS framework
    • Lead district implementation of Social and Emotional Learning curriculum
    • Identify curriculum resources (PreK-12)
    • Identify assessment resources (PreK-12)
    • Coordinate / lead professional development and/or coaching
    • Evaluate program effectiveness
    • Evaluate implementation of curriculum at each building
    • Supervise Student Support Specialists
    • Lead Tier III Behavioral interventions
    • Responsible for the compliance of district 504 plans
    • Supervise Mckinney-Vento Homeless Liaison and Foster Care Liaison
    • Coordinate the district’s Interconnected Systems Framework (ISF)
    • Lead behavior threat assessment team
    • Develop communication protocol to support family involvement of behavior interventions
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

    ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES —

    • Maintain confidential information
    • Possess skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds
    • Knowledge of child development, behavioral health, and medical health assessment
    • Experience networking and creating community partnerships
    • Direct experience working with children, youth, and families of diverse experiences
    • Possess and demonstrate an understanding of various cultural and socioeconomic characteristics
    • Strong collaborative, problem-solving, and organizational skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences; Excellent communication skills (verbal, nonverbal, written)
    • Excellent organization and time management skills
    • Knowledge of basic computing platforms (Google Workspace, databases)

    QUALIFICATIONS —

    • Required: Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field
    • Employment experience: 3-5 years within a human service, behavioral health, education, or other related field preferred
    • Familiarity with schools and non-profit organizations desired
    • Previous experience with establishing community-school partnerships is preferred
    • Ability to understand and work effectively within the dynamics of various agencies, public schools, and others
