Subrogation Specialist is responsible for subrogation activities including the identification and research of subrogation claims. Assists in the recovery of overpayments for duplicate coverage, workers' compensation, and no-fault claims. Being a Subrogation Specialist identifies legal liability and pursues, negotiates, and settles subrogation collection. Researches paid claims, answers inquiries, and coordinates with other departments, insurance adjustors, attorneys, and members. Additionally, Subrogation Specialist interacts with policyholders, claimants, witnesses, and underwriters to recommend and document the necessary information to close a file. Collects information needed to determine when an on-site investigation is necessary. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Subrogation Specialist works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     We have a wonderful new job opportunity for an Apheresis Specialist I to join our Apheresis Biologic team. The incumbent would collect blood components from donors participating in internal and external clinical research studies.

    Order and maintain supply inventory. Provide coordination for research projects involving research and commercial donors to include donor enrollment and screening, informed consent, sample acquisition, processing and shipment, data entry and management in accordance with applicable protocols and standards.

    Principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to As Apheresis Specialist I :

    General Duties :

    • Demonstrate knowledge of Bloodworks computer programs, including registration, accurate data entry of donor information and deferral entries.
    • Maintain a professional relationship with donors, ensuring their rights as research participants are protected; serve as a study participant advocate and research project informational resource.
    • Create, modify, maintain, and transmit electronic records in a controlled and approved manner in conformance with FDA requirements.
    • Complete annual Competency Assessment.
    • Maintain a good working rapport with physicians, lab personnel and fellow staff members.
    • Communicate effectively with peers to identify errors or problems; express views without being judgmental or condescending;

    ask for help when necessary.

    • Back-up for Program Assistant as needed.
    • Comply with all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as written.
    • Perform other and incidental duties as assigned.

    Apheresis Duties :

    • Screen potential donors / patients and evaluate their eligibility following Bloodworks policies / procedures, answer donors’ questions to ensure they are giving consent to donation and blood testing.
    • Take vital signs including blood pressure, pulse and temperature.
    • Record progress notes, lab values and other donor related information.
    • Properly document and perform quality controls on equipment. Consistently uphold Bloodworks standards to maintain safety as it relates to research products.
    • Draw blood samples for various tests in appropriate tubes, with proper labeling and lab slips. Deliver blood samples to the proper lab for processing.
    • Perform venipunctures both for drawing blood samples and performing research procedures.
    • Set up apheresis machine and perform automated apheresis collections.
    • Explain all aspects of apheresis procedures and screening to patients and / or donors prior to start of appointment.
    • Monitor / care for donors with adverse reactions to the donation process. Escalate to nursing and medical staff appropriately.
    • Restock supplies at the end of the day as needed.
    • Clean and promote preventative maintenance on equipment.
    • Troubleshoot problems on computers and other equipment as necessary.
    • Maintain a pleasant environment for donors and patients.
    • Coordinate and implement procedures to collect data from donor charts, interviews, questionnaires, diagnostic tests and other sources;

    code, evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare appropriate documentation; obtain blood samples, cultures, tissues and other specimens for laboratory analysis, research and / or commercial use.

    Ensure compliance with protocol guidelines and requirements of clients and regulatory agencies; identify problems and / or inconsistencies and monitor donors to include documentation and reporting of adverse events;

    recommend corrective action as appropriate.

    • Perform and document all required procedures; including but not limited to, initiation and completion when obtaining informed consent, and completion of protocol required study participant follow up.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of Bloodworks’ IT programs and ability to completely and accurately enter data, including but not limited to BBCS, Progeny, Smartsheet, Sequel, Excel, Word and Outlook.

    Collaborate with BAT and Bloodworks Bio team members, and other Bloodworks Northwest departments to manage internal processes and documentation.

    Provide feedback to management of project progress / scope or changes / new opportunities and escalating issues when they impact donor safety, timeline, scope, quality of data or budget.

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

    • High School education or GED equivalent.
    • Post-secondary education :
    • Certificate of completion or diploma from a post-secondary phlebotomy training program, OR
    • Current WA State Medical Assistant Phlebotomist certification.
    • WA State Medical Assistant Certified preferred.
    • Job Experience :
    • Six months to a year of Phlebotomy experience.
    • Apheresis experience preferred.
    • Must have strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols as written.
    • Must be highly organized, able to multi-task and work independently, take initiative to start and complete projects.

    Specific job skills include, but are not limited to :

    • Proficiency with Microsoft office programs : Word, Excel, Outlook.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
    • The following mental abilities are required in this job :
    • Ability to read and comprehend English sufficient to understand and use the SOP, written directions, instructions, and schedules.
    • Decision making and critical thinking skills to identify and solve problems, use good judgment, and take quick action when necessary.
    • Ability to attend to details for screening, documentation, and organization. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
    • Ability to work independently to achieve goals.
    • The following physical abilities are required in this job :
    • Manual dexterity, fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination for performing venipunctures, basic data entry, and documentation.
    • Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, bend and reach and to perform repetitive motions of hands / wrists.
    • Physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
    • Ability to hear blood pressures and donor responses to criteria questions.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    • Frequent constant standing and extensive close work.
    • Ability to work scheduled holidays.
    • This position has direct exposure to blood borne pathogens.
    • Telecommuting is not offered in this role.
    • Bloodworks is a community supported non-profit organization. As such, from time-to-time incumbent can expect to work with volunteers.
