Surgeon - Heart Transplant examines, diagnoses, and surgically treats patients with end-stage cardiac disease. Surgically replaces a diseased or damaged heart with a healthy heart. Being a Surgeon - Heart Transplant reviews patient history and confirms need for surgery. Determines which instruments and method of surgery will be most successful in achieving the desired outcome. Additionally, Surgeon - Heart Transplant may provide medical personnel with direction concerning patient care. May provide in-service training as needed to address new technology in health care treatment. Provides charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Requires a MD degree from an accredited school. Typically reports to the chief of surgery. Requires a license to practice. * Medical Doctor in a field or discipline specified by the department, depending upon individual position requirements * 3 years directly related experience, which may include residency in a directly related medical specialty * Medical Specialty License or Certification, Board Certified or Board Eligible in Specified Area of Medical Specialty * Experience in supervising, advising, and training clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise preferred * Knowledge of Joint Commission and related accreditation and certification requirements * Must be able to communicate effectively in English
