Aptive Resources is seeking a dedicated and skilled General Surgeon to join our team at the VA Medical Center in Fresno, CA. The General Surgeon will be responsible for providing comprehensive surgical care to veterans, ensuring high-quality and safe patient care both in and outside the operating room.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform General Surgical Operations: Conduct general surgical operations, outpatient ambulatory surgical procedures, and consultations for both outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Continuum of Care: Follow each patient through the full continuum of care including admissions, discharges, performing histories and physicals, and coordinating diagnostic tests and procedures prior to surgery.
- Patient and Family Education: Educate and counsel patients and their family members about the surgical process, including potential risks and benefits.
- Clinical Management: Manage the clinical aspects of General Surgery, including the assessment and preparation of patients for surgery.
- Initial Evaluation and Workup: Conduct initial evaluations and overall workups of general surgery patients.
- Electronic Medical Records: Enter notes and maintain patient records in a paperless medical record system.
- Post-Operative Care: Provide appropriate post-operative care and follow-up to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in peer review and quality improvement activities to maintain high standards of care.
- Committee Membership: Engage in committee memberships as required, contributing to the governance and improvement of medical practices at the facility.
- Compliance: Understand and abide by the Medical Bylaws of the facility and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Must hold a degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Licensure: Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Must be ABS (American Board of Surgery) Certified or Truly Board Eligible
- Strong clinical and surgical skills with a commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for educating and counseling patients and their families.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records and maintaining accurate patient documentation.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Dedication to continuous improvement and participation in quality improvement activities.
